Greetings from Brainerd, MN. What a spectacular August day! Larry and I flew back to Minneapolis from Miami, FL, last Friday afternoon after a wonderful fun-filled six day vacation. Our bodies and minds were ready for it!

For 25 years, we have tried to plan a time where Larry and I could get together with his two brothers and their wives-Lowell and Connie; Leon and Ronda for a brothers' reunion. Well, we finally did it! After Lowell's youngest son's wedding Enjoying some time together!!on August 5th, we boarded a cruise ship for a three day cruise to Nassau, Bahamas, Co Co Cay, Bahamas and Key West, Florida. It was short and quick, but action-packed and great fun. What a relaxing time we had without phones and office work accompanying us! We slept, ate breakfast leisurely on the 11th deck of the ship, disembarked at each port of call, returned to the ship to eat, visit, eat, visit and eat some more. Isn't that what a cruise ship is all about! It was such a treat to be together with family. We sailed out Monday evening and docked back into Miami on Friday morning at 7 AM.

Due to the recent scare of impending terrorist attacks on airplanes, the security procedures were increased astronomically. All the cruise guests that were needing to catch a flight had to be off the ship at 7:30 AM in order to catch a shuttle or taxi to the Miami airport in hopes of getting through security within three hours. We were two of those cruise guests. We rushed off the ship, down to the cruise terminal where carousels of luggage were already in full swing. Our intentions were to find our luggage within 10 minutes and rush to the airport, but...it didn't quite happen that way! We looked and looked and looked for our luggage for an hour before we finally contacted the cruise ship authorities. They reassured us the luggage would be out immediately. Arriving home with our luggage...finally!Well...immediately wasn't coming fast enough! There were 3,000 people on the cruise ship with close to 10,000 pieces of luggage of all colors, sizes and shapes. Two and half hours later, we were still searching for our luggage, but it was not to be found! Now we were facing the threat of missing our flight. I whimpered, "Why us...out of 3,000 people's luggage???" I was reminded of what my mother often jokes about. She chuckles, "Missy (Gloria), if anything crazy or humorous is going to happen, it usually happens to you!" Reality was beginning to set in that the two black suitcases with gold ribbon tied on them were lost after 2 ½ hours of searching. The terminal authorities assured us, "They can't be lost. They just came down a conveyor belt off the ship to the carousel which is on the dock next to the ship. So they aren't lost!" I kept thinking to myself, "What is it that I don't understand about the statement ' They are not lost.' They are simply not here so how can they not be lost?" I know I am getting old, but I'm not so senile that I don't comprehend that I don't see them and they are not here.

We finally resigned ourselves to the fact that after nearly 10,000 pieces of luggage had disappeared and the only people left in the gigantic terminal were about 20 employees, security guards and drug sniffing dogs, in any language, our luggage was lost! I reluctantly filled out the missing luggage forms and dreaded the thought of wearing the same outfit for who knows how long. Disappointed and a bit agitated, we raced out of the cruise terminal towards US Customs and prayed that we could catch a taxi so we wouldn't miss our flight. In the midst of the race, I heard an echo, "We found them! We found your luggage!" Evidently, they had gotten stuffed away in the belly of the ship with the crew's luggage. At that point, I didn't care where it had been stuffed, I was just happy to see it. With the start of the day going as it had, I thought, "This is going to be an exciting day!" Thank the Lord, however, that we were able to rush through the airport terminal and security with no problems except they wanted to take away my lipstick and my lip moisturizer. HA! In a few moments, we were on our plane and on our way to Minneapolis.

Mom Brooks & the kidsFrom Minneapolis, we hurried to my (Gloria's) family reunion in Fargo, North Dakota. There were more than 60 of us that attended for two days. All nine of my brothers were in attendance along with their mates. The giggles of the grandchildren and great grandchildren Mom Brooks with the kids and their mates

added so much zest and joy to the event. Needless to say, there were endless sibling stories and humurous childhood confessions flying around. My Mom Brooks and all the children and great grandchildren-WOW!
precious mother...almost 91 years old but more like going on 70....sat there in disbelief and chuckled, "Where was I when all these pranks were going on?" She just chuckled! Mom was so happy and content having her family together. With everyone's busy schedules and family scattered around the area, about 40 of the family were unable to make it.

All in all, we had a wonderful vacation week with family on both sides. Family reunions are so special, but the greatest reunion of all will be when we are reunited with Jesus Christ along with all of our loved ones and friends who have gone on before us. I long to see my father, my brother, Jake, my only sister who died when she was one week old, Larry's parents and his little brother, Laverne. I get excited just thinking about heaven and the upcoming reunion, but we have to remember, we only share in that reunion if we have accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. Revelation 22:14 gives the last blessing for those who keep His truth, "Blessed are they that do His commandments that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter in through the gates and to the city." Wow! What a day that will be when we see Jesus and we will be with Him for all eternity! Praise the Lord!

Well, Gloria, now it's back to earth! We are back into ministry mode and are ready to hit the road for soulwinning rallies. We will be ministering in Minnesota for the next three weeks. We would appreciate your prayers for us during this tour that many will find Christ as their personal Savior. Have a great week!

Gloria

August 9, 2006Lance & Paola Lundstrom...united in marriage August 5, 2006

Greetings from Miami, Florida. What an exciting week! Larry and I flew out of Minneapolis on Friday to Miami to attend the wedding of our nephew, Lance Lundstrom and Paola Shepherd. Lance is the youngest son of Larry's brother, Pastor Lowell and Connie Lundstrom, of Lakeville, MN.

We were on pins and needles as Hurricane Chris was swirling around in the Atlantic Ocean midweek and was still deciding where to make landfall...the first prediction was Miami. We prayed and hoped Coral Gables United Church of ChristHurricane Chris would get exhausted and just fizzle out before it reached land. Can you imagine the stress the bride and groom were going through wondering if their wedding would be washed out? Many of the wedding guests flew in from Minnesota and Paola had many guests fly in from Peru which is her home. She has been attending the The three brothers...together again!University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. In answer to our prayers, Hurricane Chris fizzled out, was downgraded to a tropical storm and then headed in another direction. The wedding was magnificent, and the bride was beautiful. Of course, we all love weddings. It was special having most of Larry's family all together. It made it so much fun. After the splendid reception, we finally retired to our room about 1:30 AM.

On Sunday morning, Larry and I, along with Lowell and Connie, had a relaxing breakfast in the Patio Café overlooking the white sand beach of South Beach Miami. Then, Gloria, Connie and Lowellunbeknownst to us, we were about to embark on another adventure...finding a church to attend Sunday morning worship.

It shouldn't have been a big ordeal except we didn't have a car and we didn't know where the churches were located. My sister-in-law, Connie, made some calls and secured a name and location of a good church about 4 ½ miles away. We decided to acquire a taxi and split the cost. The guys hailed down a taxi, gave the driver the written address to the church and we all jumped in.

The fare meter automatically registered $2.50 to begin....then click...click...click...$5.00... click....click....click.....$10.00....click....click...click....$12.40.....$13.50....$15.00.....$18.50.....
$20.00.....$23.00.....$27.00! All of our eyes were transfixed on this meter that seemed to be clicking out of control. We kept asking the foreign driver, "Are we almost there? They told us it was only 4 ½ miles." The driver just smiled and nodded his head. We passed by the Miami Marina and the Miami Airport on our journey. The meter continued to click away... $38.00....$41.00. Again, we panicked, "How much further?" The driver smiled and said, "A little more ways." "But," we exclaimed, "We were told it was only 4 ½ miles away!" Again he smiled and said, "A little more ways." The fare clicked $45.00....$47.00....we all gasped and at that moment he announced, "Here!" We looked out and saw the church. We all sighed as we looked at the meter that registered $48.10. I think the fare meter needed to cool off and we needed encouragement at that point. We thought the price of fuel was high, but to pay $48.10 one way to go to church... "Come on, God," I thought. "I sure hope this service is worth it." We handed him a credit card to which he bluntly announced, "Don't take credit cards-cash only!" Panic registered in our hearts once again. We had credit cards and checks, but between all of us we only had $33.00 cash. Bless that cab driver as he said, "I go to your hotel many times a day. I will come back and get you and you pay me the rest there." I guess what else could he do as he didn't have too many options. He must of thought that if we were that determined to go to church, he could trust us for the rest of the money. Needless to say, we were all quite embarrassed about the situation! We then piled out of the taxi and strolled into the church. Again, I thought to myself, "Lord, I sure hope this service is worth the $48.00 and another $48.00 to get back to the hotel."

We were ushered to our pew just as they were beginning worship. The sanctuary instantly was filled with God's glory. We sat there and just basked in his presence. How refreshing it was to just sit and drink in spiritually. Pastor Stocker served us a full-course spiritual meal that filled us up! When the service was over, I whispered to Larry, "This was definitely worth the investment!" After the service, Pastor Stocker of Christian Bible Church, visited with us and insisted he take us all out for a Sunday brunch, and drive us back to South Beach where our hotel was. What precious people! We had a wonderful time!

Thinking back on this somewhat humorous event, the scripture Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose." God had a purpose in all of this. Don't we often question, in our daily lives, why some things happen the way they do? As I was encouraged, so I want to encourage you--- God is and wants to be a part of every event in our daily lives. He will see us through.

This week...look for God's hand in your everyday life situations and you, too, will see that He was there all the time.

Gloria

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Life is hard, but the after-life can be even harder.

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

A husband and wife were involved in a petty argument, both unwilling to admit they might be in error.

"I'll admit I'm wrong," the wife told her husband, "if you'll admit I'm right." He agreed and, like a gentleman, insisted she go first.

"I'm wrong," she said. Without pausing, he responded, "You're right!"

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Creamy Caramel Peanut Butter Dip

25 caramels (about ½ bag)

½ cup milk or light cream

2 Tbsp peanut butter

½ cup dry roasted peanuts, chopped

3 red or green apples, sliced

Place caramels, milk and peanut butter in microwaveable bowl. Microwave on high 2 ½ to 3 minutes or until caramels are completely melted, stirring after each minute.

Serve warm as a dip with apple slices. Sprinkle dipped apples with peanuts.

Makes 1 cup or 8 servings.

Here it is August already! July was a hot and busy month. South Dakota had an average temp of 88 degrees for the month (unusual for us) with temperatures up to 116 degrees. It hasn't been this hot and dry in various areas of South Dakota since 1936. Thank God for air conditioning!

Larry and I were reminiscing about those long, hot days of summer when we were kids and didn't have air conditioning. The hot nights were unbearable! If you opened the windows, it was like a hot blast and the mosquitos would squeeze through the screens and have lunch...on us! Then, when the sun came up, the flies buzzed around your face or would take a walk on your nose or mouth to alert you that it was time to get up. Or...maybe the message was, "Please go brush your teeth!" HA! What am I complaining about? We all survived and it made us tough and more appreciative of all the comforts we have today.

Myanna is ready to go!We had a busy "catch-up" week in our home office after Larry arrived home from Latvia. His body clock is finally getting back to normal. When we drove back to Sisseton last week, Myanna giggled, "Grandpa, now you can give me rides on the scooter...right?" Her dancing brown eyes melted him and he readily acknowledged, "Yes!" In a snap, she had her helmet on and was perched on the scooter. Off they went for a short ride.

While Larry was gone, Myanna had the job of watering my few scraggly flowers. I only plant just enough so there is something trying to grow besides weeds. At the end of June when we arrived home from our spring tour, I visited the local greenhouse. The owner asked, "Gloria, what can I help you with?" I told her, "I want flowers that are pretty, hardy, colorful, and they don't need to be watered much since I'm am often gone." She chuckled, "I would suggest silk flowers or cactus." The itsy-bitsy domestic side of me was still determined to take on the challenge of nurturing some petunias. The funny thing about it all is this-when we watered them every night, they would wilt, but when I had to leave for a week and returned, they looked much better without my pampering! What a low blow! What does that tell you about my green thumb?Myanna picking a tomato with Great Grandma Julie

Myanna also took on the responsibility of watering her great grandmother's flowers, tomato plants, cucumber plants, and squash plants. For the past eight weeks, she had the opportunity to watch Grandma's tomato plants blossom, grow and finally ripen. Last Saturday, her great grandma Brooks (who is 90 ½) called Myanna and told her that there was one ripe tomato. She told her she could come and pick it. Oh how proud she was when she picked that little odd-shaped tomato! Myanna has been with us for the past two months. We just took her back to her mother and brother last Saturday. We sure enjoyed having her with us. Hopefully, we will get the grandkids for another week or so in mid-August.

Pastor Percy and Debbie KallevigOn Saturday, Larry and I drove to Elk River, Minnesota, to the Twin Lakes Christian Center. We have known the pastor, Percy Kallevig, since he was a young lad, 4-5 years old. We have had the privilege of watching him and his identical twin brother grow up. Percy married a wonderful girl, Debbie, and entered into full time ministry. What a great couple! They started a new work about three years ago and it continues to grow. They are blessed with many young families. Pastor Percy is so charged and electric! Oh how Larry and I love to see that zeal for Christ.

Pastor Percy shared this with us:The altar call at Twin Lakes Christian A/G

Thank you, Larry and Gloria, for coming to Elk River, MN. Your ministry brought 4 first-time decisions for Christ. One of those was a public grade school principal who had visited us once before. Because of excellent counselor training received from you, we will call on these new Christians and watch them grow.

How thrilling to see people of influence, like the principal, make Christ Lord of their lives. We need that impact in our schools. Those leaders need our prayers for all of the decisions they have to make in guiding and teaching our children and grandchildren.

There is much talk today about the direction our youth are going. I agree-and I am concerned! But...first of all...let's not throw all of the youth in one bundle. We are seeing teenagers who are turned on for God and are making a huge difference in reaching others for Christ. Thank God for the great move of God upon countless thousands of young people. However, there are masses of youth that are lost without Christ. Often, we are quick to blame the youth for their irresponsible actions and wrong decisions, but here is another thought-could it be that, we, as adults, could be part of the problem? As I was sifting through my goodie box of articles, I came across a clipping that my mother gave me years ago that would appear as if it was written today.

Let me share it with you:

The label "delinquency" fits older folks, too

They read in the papers,

they hear on the air,

of killing and stealing

and crime everywhere.

They sigh and they say

as they notice the trend,

this young generation,

where will it end?

But can't they be sure

that it's our fault alone?

Too much money for us to spend,

too much idle time,

too many movies of passion and crime.

Too many books not fit to read,

too many children encouraged to roam,

by too many parents who won't stay home.

Youth don't make the movies,

we don't write the books,

that paint of enticing pictures

of gangsters and crooks.

We don't make the liquor,

we don't run the bars,

we don't make the laws

and we don't make the cars.

We don't make the drugs

that idle our brain.

It's all done by older folks,

greedy for gain.

And how many cases

you find that it's true,

the label "delinquency:

fits older folks, too.

I was convicted. Have I been a part of the problem or am I a part of the solution? God help us, as parents and grandparents, to wake up and be responsible so we can do our part to help lead this generation in the right direction! They are not beyond God's reach. 2 Peter 3:9 says, "The Lord is not slack concerning his promises, but is long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." We claim that promise! Let's all pray and fight for this generation!

God bless you and have a great week!

Gloria

Too many parents tie up their dogs and let their children run loose.

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

St. Peter is very busy in heaven, so he leaves a sign by the pearly gates: "For service, ring bell."  He's barelygone when the bell rings.  He rushes back to the gates, but no one's there.

St. Peter goes back to work, but the bell rings again.  He rushes back to the gates, and again no one's there.  Growing annoyed, he returns to work.

"Ding!" The bell rings a third time.  St. Peter goes back to the gates, but still no one's there.  "OK, that's it," he mutters.  "What's going on?"  He hides a short distance away, and a moment later, a little old man walks up and rings the bell.

St. Peter jumps out and yells, "Are you the guy who keeps ringing the bell?"

"Yes," the old man says.

"Well, why?" asks St. Peter.

The old man answers, "They keep resuscitating me."

Praise the Lord....Larry's back! He arrived in Minneapolis at 4:10 PM last Friday. Our daughter, LaDawn, the grandkids and I welcomed him home with lots of hugs! He looked a bit weary from the long trip from Latvia, Russia. As soon as he cracked a few crazy jokes, I knew he was back safe...and sound??? (HA!)

Larry didn't have much time to recuperate as that evening we celebrated Myanna's 8th birthday with a party. She had a swimming party with a few cousins and friends. Myanna also had, what we call "her twin", Tyra, there. Myanna has been through daycare and the first two grades of school with her. You have to look at them twice to see which one is which. We were reunited! I missed him while he was gone!Praise the Lord....Larry's back! He arrived in Minneapolis at 4:10 PM last Friday. Our daughter, LaDawn, the grandkids and I welcomed him home with lots of hugs! He looked a bit weary from the long trip from Latvia, Russia. Myanna had fun celebrating her eighth birthday!Larry didn't have much time to recuperate as that evening we celebrated Myanna's 8th birthday with a party. She had a swimming party with a few cousins and friends. Myanna also had, what we call "her twin", Tyra, there. Myanna has been through daycare and the first two grades of school with her. You have to look at them twice to see which one is which. By 9:30 PM, which was 5:30 AM Russian time, Larry was almost incoherent so we went back to LaDawn's. He literally walked in and within two minutes was in bed fast asleep. He slept 8 hours and was up and running on Saturday.

Saturday was another special day. We traveled toward Shell Lake, WI, for a rally, butWe felt privilege to be able to meet up with our son in Eau Claire! We treasure every moment! stopped at Eau Claire, WI, to see our son , Donovan, who we hadn't seen since Christmas. He was working a few hours there. We had the joy to be able to be with him and to also attend an outdoor concert that he was running sound for. We cherished each moment with him. I miss him so much! I told him on the phone today, "I just wanted to shoot you with a tranquilizer gun, stuff you in our luggage, and bring you home so we could just enjoy you and spend time with you!" But....as you, parents, know, when they leave home, they live their own lives and we must just savor those few moments we have together. Donovan lives in Nashville, TN, and is traveling a lot so we don't see him as often as we would like. That's life!

Pastor Virgil and Linda Amundson-precious people and great pastors! From Eau Claire, WI, we drove to Shell Lake, WI, and set up our sound system at Shell Lake Full Gospel. We have ministered at this church several times through the years. Pastor Virgil Amundson and his wife, Linda, are so precious and have tender hearts for the Lord. Their church has a great burden for the youth and thus a great program for them. After the Sunday morning service, 30 of their young people journeyed off to Colorado Springs, CO, for a Leadership Conference. These young people are really turned on for God! Oh how I love to see that!

Pastor Amundson has a heart for the Lost and hurting. We had a wonderful service and altar call. He shared the following with us:

The altar call at Shell Lake Full Gospel!"Larry and Gloria blessed our Sunday service with their music and message that touched both our younger and older generation. It was wonderful to see several young people receive Christ at the altar as well as several re-dedications.

Larry is an anointed soul winner who has never compromised his message of preaching Christ and the cross. I commend Larry and Gloria for that. Thanks for a great service!"

After the morning service, Dawn and Michelle Dodge, approached me in the foyer. Dawn'sMichelle and Dawn Dodge shared some great testimonies with us! face was just radiant and she bubbled, "Gloria, in the year 2000, you and Larry ministered here at this church and we came to see you. We were so blessed by your ministry. I will never forget when Larry gave the altar call, he waited a few minutes for those who wanted to receive Christ to respond. He then announced, 'I'm going to wait one more minute and this altar call will be over.' I knew God was speaking to my heart. When he came to the last thirty seconds, I stood up and my mother stood up with me. I will never forget that day and the feeling of Jesus lifting me to my feet. It was an amazing day and all these years later, the commitment is still there and staying strong. Thank you! I just wanted to come this morning and thank you for your part in leading us to Christ."

Dawn's daughter, Michelle, who is about to begin Graduate Studies in college shared with us, "Larry prayed with me in March of 2000 to accept Christ here at Shell Lake Full Gospel Church. What a joy it was to be able to come this morning and enjoy your ministry. Also, what a privilege to be able to thank you and the Lord for helping my grandma, my mom and me find Christ."

This testimony from Muriel Lindquist was also shared with us, "What a blessing to be able Gloria and Muriel Lindquistto attend the service in Buffalo (July 2nd), with your wonderful singing, Gloria's testimony, words of encouragement and Larry's preaching. The true salvation message through song and word reaches people for the Lord. Praise God for those who came to Christ this morning. It was in the early 70's when my late husband, Pete, was involved in bringing the Lundstrom's to Pipestone, MN. I still see the results of changed lives during that crusade, including two of our daughters, their friends and many others who came to Jesus over 30 years ago. Thank you for allowing God to continue to use you to win souls for Him. You are faithful to God's calling as He remains faithful to us."

It is testimonies like the above that keep us hitting the road. I am so thankful that when I was eight years old, someone kept inviting our family to church. Finally, our family of about nine (at that time) went and that morning, we also felt Christ lift all of us off our feet to make decisions for Christ. All that has to happen to see people come to Christ is to follow what John 12:32 says, "And if I be lifted up...I will draw all men unto me." I am so eternally grateful that someone cared enough to invite our family to church. Now there are 103 in our immediate family and about 90 of them are serving the Lord. Isn't that great! God is good!

Well, it's time to go. It has been fun talking to you again. I look forward to connecting with you next week! God bless you and keep you!

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

WHICH FOOD IS THE MOST HARMFUL?

The doctor was addressing a large audience, "The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us sitting here years ago. Red meat is awful. Soft drinks corrode your stomach lining. Chinese food is loaded with MSG. High fat diets can be disastrous, and none of us realize the long term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water. But there is one thing that is most dangerous of all and we all have, or will, eat it. Can anyone here tell me what food it is that causes the most grief and suffering for years after eating it?"

After several seconds of silence, a 75 year old man sitting on the front row raised his hand and softly said, "Wedding cake!"

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Quick & Easy Sweet N Saucy Meatballs

1 lb lean ground beef

1 egg

½ cup quick cooking oats

1 ½ cups water

1 1/4 cups ketchup (can add some BBQ sauce if you would like to add more flavor)

1 cup sugar

In a bowl, combine beef and egg. Sprinkle with oats, mix well. Shape into 1 ½ in balls. Place in a lightly greased 11 in x 7 in x 2 in baking dish. Combine water, ketchup and sugar. Pour over meatballs. Bake, uncovered at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until meat is no longer pink. Then....enjoy!

Hello from sweltering South Dakota! We are experiencing a heat wave here! It has been nearly 100 degrees for several days. The grass and fields are showing the effects of the heat and little rain turning shades of brown. The ranchers and farmers need moisture desperately. If they don't get rain soon, the crops will completely dry up causing farmers to sell. The ranchers will have to move their cattle or sell due to lack of hay for them to eat. There are so many states struggling with heavy drought-the worst in many, many years. Speaking of heat, Larry told me last year when we were in Arizona, "It's so hot that the birds have to use potholders to get the worms out of the ground!" It sounds like Larry, doesn't it.

July 19, 2006

Larry has been gone for 16 days and will be flying back into Minneapolis, MN, on Friday, July 21st. I sure miss my man! He has had a wonderful missions trip thus fMyanna sending her grandpa an e-mail across the sea!ar. It seems like he is just getting into the swing of things, great happenings are taking place, and wonderful results are being seen, but it is almost time to wind down and head home. We have been e-mailing back and forth as well as instant messaging. The internet has been a great way to stay in touch across the sea. Even Myanna was able to participate; she e-mailed her grandpa the last couple of days. She is almost better than me on the computer. That's embarrassing when your eight year old granddaughter can run the computer better than Grandma! HA!

Larry ministeringLast Friday, a missionary took Larry out to a remote area. He said the church was literally boards on stumps. Before long, Latvians began to straggle in and Larry ministered. The missionary said that 13 years ago when all of the preachers and missionaries flooded into the country, the churches flourished and grew from 40 to 400 to 1,000. Then, gradually, the revivals cooled off and many of the churches fell back down to less than 100 people. The missionary, Pastor Marel, added that the pastors have become discouraThis church is said to be a replica of the church in the Red Square in Moscowged and a spirit of apathy has set back in. When Larry gave the altar call that day, only two of the few who came were saved but both made commitments to Jesus for the very first time! Larry said the pastor was dancing with glee and said, "I have been waiting for this move of God. This is a breakthrough!"

Saturday, Larry journeyed to Liepaja, Latvia, which is located on the coast. He said it was very beautiful there. He changed motels as the one he and Paul were in made the Motel 6 (no offense to Motel 6) look like a Sheraton. Larry said they had two tiny single European beds which were the size of large cots and they shared a bathroom down the hall with other guests in the hotel. They both were so tired when they returned, they were just thankful to collapse somewhere. The room cost them 15 Lats ($30.00) a night...so what do you expect for $30???

One of the altar calls in Liepaja...praise the Lord!On Sunday, July 17th, Larry ministered in three services. Pastor Dan Pedraza and his wife, Demaris, were thrilled at the response of the people. Dan commented that usually when they have a guest speaker, they have a hard time keeping people's attention. This was not the case with brother Larry! He said the people Larry has gotten to meet many great people...adults and kids alike!sat spell bound as he spoke. At that point in the e-mail, I said, "Were you telling a joke and they responded to your wacky jokes?" Larry responded, "I was actually amazed at how many jokes actually flew!" I really laughed at that! Larry added that the people are so oppressed in some areas that they are desperately looking for joy and enjoyed seeing someone happy making them laugh. I told him, "You go...man...you're on a roll!" Of course, jokes and joy are right up Larry's alley. Making people happy and leading them to Christ is his calling. Pastor Dan was especially thrilled to see a couple that made first decisions for Christ. He was also excited to see a lady that had been searching out Eastern religions come forward and accept Christ for the first time.Larry and one of his interpreters....a new challenge for Larry!

In Larry's second service that day, the Spirit of the Lord was so awesome that two women raised their hands to Alinaget saved even before Larry gave the altar call. In that particular service, Larry spoke through two interpreters. He said it was a challenge to keep his sermon thoughts and momentum while all the interpreting was taking place.  In this service, Alina came to Larry and shared how thankful she was for the simplicity in which Larry shared the Gospel.  There are many new believers who needed to hear a simple Gospel message once again.

Praise the Lord for this great response! Finally, the third service was held in a soccer park. It was awesome as I understand it! Many responded to the altar call. After the service was over, a lady ran up to Pastor Dan and said, "Pastor, there were so many people that did not go up to the front, but they were crying and prayed the sinner's prayer out loud with Brother Larry!" So, if the missions trip ended now, heaven is filled with joy over the many who have come to Christ.

Now, back to me....I have stayed at the home office in order to keep everything rolling here. I am glad I have Myanna here to keep me company. I thought I was going to take careJust "one" game of UNO..... of her, but she is such a big help answering phones and running back and forth with papers and supplies between Larry's desk downstairs and my office upstairs. She has saved me thousands of steps which helps me not to tax my gimp leg. One of our special traditions together is every night before devotions, we play the game of UNO. Last night I was very tired so I told her that we would just play one game. Well, we are getting to competitive that the one game took one hour and forty minutes. To top it off-she beat me! It definitely made her day to say the least!

On Sunday, Myanna and I attended a community service that was held in our small town. It was great! The guest preacher gave a salvation message and several responded. I sat there and though to myself how wonderful it is when the community of several churches comes together and joins for the purpose of fellowship and seeing lives changed. Often, churches and pastors feel threatened and won't cooperate together thus hindering the work of God. The Bible is clear to tell us in Hebrews 10:25, "...not forsaking the assembling of ourselves, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day (of the Lord) approaching." We need the fellowship of the believers, and we need to put down our denominational swords so we can join together working for the Great Commission, "Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15) There is a lost and dying world waiting to be reached. Let's put our workclothes on and do what we have been commissioned to do. Begin in your own home and family and then reach out to those that God places in your daily path.

Have a great week! You are loved!

Don't let your worries get the best of you; remember, Moses started out as a basketcase!

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

While waiting in line at the bank, a coworker developed a very loud case of the hiccups. By the time he reached the teller's window, the hiccups seemed to have worsened. The teller took my friend's check and proceeded to run a computer verification of his account. After a minute she looked up from her terminal with a frown and said that she would be unable to cash his check.

"Why not?" my friend asked incredulously.

"I'm sorry, sir," she replied, "but our computer indicates that you do not have sufficient funds to cover this amount. As a matter of fact," she continued, "our records show your account overdrawn in excess of $5,000."

"It can't be!" he cried. "You have to be kidding!"

"Yes I am," she answered with a smile, counting out his cash. "But you will notice that your hiccups are gone."

Sprinkle about ½ of the chopped nuts over coconut. Layer whipped topping over the top. Garnish with a circle of chopped nuts and sliced strawberries. Serves 12

Hello! I'm back in Sisseton after being gone for ten days. Larry flew out of Minneapolis on July 4th, arrived in Latvia on July 5th, but without his traveling companion, Evangelist Paul Murray, whose flight was delayed. Larry flew the first leg to Stockholm, Sweden, alone. Paul arrived several hours later. They were greeted and graciously hosted by the Per Kronlid family. They were treated to a delicious Swedish spaghetti dinner. The housing arrangements were made by Sandy, the daughter of our partner friend, Blake Hubert, from Wisconsin. We deeply appreciate their help and hospitality.

Larry and fellow friend and evangelist, Paul MurrayHello! I'm back in Sisseton after being gone for The Per Kronlid family who hosted us while we were in Sweden.ten days.

I am ever so thankful for e-mail as Larry and I can stay in touch daily. Isn't technology great? In a few seconds, our messages cross the ocean. WOW!

Back to the journey...Larry and Paul stayed in Stockholm, Sweden, for three days. He struggled with a "bug" he had picked up a few days earlier so he wasn't really feeling quite himself. He and Paul's body clocks hadn't caught upLarry witnessing to a young gentleman. yet so when he should be sleeping, he couldn't, and when he was supposed to be up and running, he desperately wanted to sleep! While in Sweden, Larry and Paul had the opportunity to share Christ with many on the streets.

On Saturday night, the 8th, Larry and Paul boarded the Regina Baltic Ferry, en route to Latvia. In Larry's e-mail, previous to the trip on the ferry, he was informing me it would be a nice all-night ride because he and Paul had a cabin to sleep in. What he visualized and what I visualized were two very different scenes so I kept my thoughts to myself. Larry e-mailed back the following night and described his "Sheraton" cabin on the ferry. It was actually a little cubicle no more than 6 x 8 feet which included a shower and two bunks. Sorry...but I chuckled out loud when I read that! Can you imagine my 6'3 husband, along with Paul, in the tiny cubicle? Close quarters, I'd say! Then Larry added, "It was so hot, we could hardly breathe as the weather is hotter than usual." He added, "Another sleepless night on the ferry. So much for the luxury liner!"

They arrived in Riga, Latvia, on Sunday morning. They rushed around trying to make arrangements to get to the church where they were to minister late Sunday afternoon. The church requested music so Larry scrambled and plugged in his small music machine to a 220 outlet through his adapter and... POOF! He said he saw smoke rising off the charging transformer. He quickly got it under control and proceeded into the service. This was his first opportunity to speak through an interpreter and he said it went well. He was able to share his passion for the lost, and they made it through the first service okay.

By the way...several times in Larry's e-mails he has mentioned, "We haven't had time to eat due to tight schedules." He then added, "Boy, honey, am I thankful for all the trail mix and goodies you sent with me!" As I mentioned before, food is a big item to my big man! I think I'm a hero at this stage as I was able to help feed the hungry. HA!

On Monday, July 10th, Larry and Paul ministered at a prison. Larry said there was a lot of red tape getting in and due to tight security, they were not allowed to take any photos. When Larry gave the altar call, he rejoiced over the 23 that responded to make decisions for Christ. Now we pray, there will be adequate follow up and discipleship. They will definitely need it! When Larry inquired about follow up, the chaplain assured him that there are several good ministries who work weekly with the inmates.

Larry's last e-mail, read, "Missed my breakfast due to a quick schedule change. Back to the trail mix" When I e-mail him back, I will assure him that I will eat lots of good food in remembrance of him! HA!

Now...about me...I'm in the thick of things with office work again. I brought our granddaughter, Myanna, back home to Sisseton with me. She has been with us for nearly six weeks now and is a joy to have around. This morning, she observed all my piles of papers here, there and everywhere and asked me, "What are you going to do today?" I think she was hoping it was a play day! I responded, "Honey, I'm going to be busy with office work all day," to which she replied, "Grandma, why don't you sell the office?" I chuckled and then responded, "I have to work-it is my job, my ministry, my passion and my paycheck. What would I do if I didn't get paid? How would I live?" She just sighed and said, "Oh." That was the end of the conversation.

Many people participate in missions trips in the summer either within the US or to other countries, but my summer missions is my grandchildren. Even though we are busy, it gives me the opportunity to pour spiritually into Dante' and Myanna's lives. There is a passage in Deuteronomy that instructs us to "Teach them while they sittest or lieth." That is what we are trying to do. I take every available moment I can to feed God into their little lives. They will need all they can get in these last days.

Just a few minutes ago, while writing this update, I received an e-mail from our dear friends, Steve and Becky Smith in North Carolina. They shared that their young daughter, Sarah, has had a cancer relapse. My heart breaks for them. Sarah has undergone extensive chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant and various other procedures. She had been doing good the last couple of years. I can't imagine the concern and fears that they face at this very moment. Sadly...it's not just the Smith's but hundreds of thousands across the world that are facing seemingly hopeless situations...but God is still on the throne and He still answers prayer! Lamentations 3:22-24 is my daily encouragement, "It is the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion saith my soul therefore will I hope in Him." Please remember Sarah and the family in your prayers.

If you are reading this and you, too, are facing a giant in your life, I pray that right now in Jesus' name, you will feel His presence and His sustaining power. He will carry you through!

Wherever you are, I pray that you have a wonderful week knowing that Jesus loves you and we do too.

Lord, when we are wrong, make us willing to change, and when we are right, make us easy to live with.

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

Thanks to Blake Hubert for sending on this e-mail to us. We thought it was very appropriate right now.

DEAR GOD:

I want to thank You for what you have already done. I am not going to wait until I see results or receive rewards; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until I feel better or things look better; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until people say they are sorry or until they stop talking about me; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until the pain in my body disappears ; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until my financial situation improves; I am going to thank you right now. I am not going to wait until the children are asleep and the house is quiet; I am going to thank you right now. I am not going to wait until I get promoted at work or until I get the job; I am going to thank you right now. I am not going to wait until I understand every experience in my life that has caused me pain or grief; I am thanking you right now. I am not going to wait until the journey gets easier or the challenges are removed; I am thanking you right now. I am thanking you because I am alive. I am thanking you because I made it through the day's difficulties. I am thanking you because I have walked around the obstacles. I am thanking you because I have the ability and the opportunity to do more and do better. I'm thanking you because FATHER, YOU haven't given up on me.

Great truths that adults have learned:

1. Raising teenagers is like nailing Jello to a tree.

2. Wrinkles don't hurt

3. Families are like fudge, mostly sweet with a few nuts.

4. Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.

5. Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside.

Happy July to you! Another month is upon us-June disappeared so quickly. It went by only too quickly.

July 4th was a big day for us. We were in Minneapolis. We got up early and Larry Larry loading the suburban to go to the airport...final destination....Latviaand I finished the final packing for his missions trip to Latvia. LaDawn, I and the kids drove Larry to the airport at 8:30 AM. We set his suitcases on the curb, and when it was time to say goodbye to Larry, I got a bit emotional! It was hard to see my best friend getting ready to leave without me. We are always together-"joined at the hip" as my mother would say! HA! Well, it was tough watching my other hip....hop into the airport terminal to embark on the first leg of his missions journey. As he disappeared out of sight, I must have whimpered as LaDawn said, "Mom, he's only been gone 30 seconds and you already miss him."

Larry took two suitcases. As you know, guys pack more conservatively and lighter than women. He had 1 ½ suitcases filled with clothes and the other half filled with his essentials...all kinds of snacks. Those are essential to Larry! I think he was afraid there wouldn't be any food over there. As long as he has food, he's happy anywhere! He didn't get 6'2 from nothing. HA!

Larry flew out of Minneapolis at 11:00 AM, July 4th, to Newark, NJ, to meet up Larry will be missed by many when he is gone....including the grandkids...but I think I will miss him the most!with his friend and fellow evangelist, Paul Murray, who Larry is joining for this trip. They were to meet in Newark and then fly together to Stockholm, Sweden, for the first leg of the journey. While waiting in the Newark airport last night for Paul to arrive, he received a message from Paul that he couldn't get out of Cleveland, OH, due to bad weather. Paul's flight was delayed to Newark so he instructed Larry to go on to Sweden without him and he would meet him at the Stockholm airport a few hours later. Sounds easy, doesn't it? At this writing, I am still waiting to see if they have connected.

When Paul arrives, they will take an overnight ferry to Latvia. They will begin their ministry there and will eventually travel to Lithuania as well. From what I understand, they have more places to minister in than they have time for. They will be involved with crusades, street meetings, church plantings and assisting pastors. They definitely will be kept busy, but then again, that is why they are there.

The next two weeks of updates, July 13th and 20th, I hope to have photos and missions updates providing Larry doesn't have problems getting them sent over. I am anxious to follow with him on his journey.

After we took Larry to the airport on July 4th, LaDawn, Dante' and Myanna I have enjoyed spending some time with our daughter, LaDawn. took me over to one of their friend's homes who hosted a neighborhood 4th of July party. They had a pool so Dante' and Myanna swam and played nonstop for four hours straight. What did I do? I sat under an umbrella and totally relaxed. Wow...was I ever ready for that after the past week of preparation for Larry's missions trip along with tackling piles of mail and taking care of the urgent matters that needed to get done before he left. I was thrilled for a holiday! The weather was perfect with temperatures in the high 70's and lots of sunshine. Also enjoyed were delicious snacks, food off the grill and desserts. It was a joy getting to meet many of LaDawn's friends she has known for many years. The climax of the day was watching the kids shoot their fireworks and also enjoying the local display.

Our US board of directors, Bruce Schoeman, Carolyn Johnson, Gloria, Larry, Doug Jones and his wife, Deb Last week, en route to our service in Buffalo, MN, we held our annual US LLM board meeting in St. Cloud, MN. We held our Canadian board meeting in Estevan, Canada, in May. We are so blessed to have wonderful men and women of God serve on our board who are great advisors to Larry and I and the ministry. We are also blessed and at peace knowing that they seek God over the decisions of this ministry which affects thousands of lives monthly.Pastor Bill Hicks of Buffalo, MN-he's doing a great job!

From the board meeting, we drove to Buffalo, MN, on Saturday to set up for a Sunday service. As you know, the weekend of the 4th finds most everyone fleeing to lakes to spend the holiday but we were thankful we still had a nice crowd. It was great to be back with Pastor Bill Hicks who is another great young pastor filled with enthusiasm and zest to reach the Lost. Many friends drove in whom we haven't seen for years.

Lately, It seems everyone I have talked to is either getting ready to go on vacation or just returning. Everyone loves vacations. Even if you don't leave home, just the thought of not being committed to jobs or responsibilities or time schedules is an oasis of rest in the mind.

One night when our children were young, after our family was talking about what we wanted to do of our one-week vacation, I went to bed still thinking about it. Gradually I drifted off, half asleep, when the thought came to me, What if God took a vacation? What if we couldn't feel His love filling our hearts? We would have to face trials and frustrations alone. If the news media predicted world-wide economic collapse, we couldn't rest assured that He was taking care of us. When we needed His comfort, He wouldn't be around to help us.

Then, I thought about the importance of having the Holy Spirit in my life. He's the one who shows me the difference between right and wrong when I have questions about what to do. I really depend upon the Holy Spirit for answers. "O Lord," I prayed, "please don't shut off the blessing that You supply every day-food, clothes, shelter and financial miracles when our family pocketbook is empty." What would we do if the Great Physician took a vacation from healing His children of the sicknesses and plagues Satan uses in his attempts to destroy our bodies?

I shivered when I thought about the vacations people take from God. What if God instructed His angels, " You don't have to protect My children for the next two weeks because they want to be left alone. They're on vacation." If we really thought He would do that, we would be scared to travel on highways. We couldn't enjoy boat rides or go swimming if we knew that God's protection was gone.

Even now I can feel the warmth and love of the Holy Spirit filling my soul. I can almost her Him say, "Gloria, I love you. You're my child. I want to be the Lord of your life. I want to comfort you and be your friend. I want to carry your burdens and take away your hurts. Gloria, I love you so much! You can be sure I'll never take a vacation."

What a comfort it is to know that God never takes a vacation from us. Let's promise ourselves never to take a vacation from Him.

Well, I must run. I'm at LaDawn's for a couple of days. I have two grandchildren who are anxious for Grandma to get her office work done so I can spend some time with them. Off I go! Have a great week!

Gloria

P.S. Please remember to pray for Larry for his health, strength and protection.

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

There was a young Scottish boy called Angus who decided to try life in Australia. He found an apartment in a small block and settled in.

After a week or two, his mother called from Aberdeen to see how her son was doing in his new life.

"I'm fine," Angus said. "But there are some really strange people living in these apartments. One woman cried all day long, another lies on the floor moaning, and there is a guy next door to me who bangs his head on the wall all the time."

"Well, ma laddie," says his mother, "I suggest you don't associate with people like that."

"Oh," says Angus, "I don't, Mam, I don't. No, I just stay inside my apartment all day and night, playing my bagpipes."

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Lemon Ice

2 cups sugar

1 cup water

2 cups lemon juice

1 tbsp grated lemon peel

In a saucepan over low heat, cook and stir sugar and water until sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat; stir in lemon juice. Pour into a freezer container. Freeze for four hours, stirring every 30 minutes, or until mixture becomes slushy. Sprinkle servings with lemon peel. Yields six servings.

Greetings from Sisseton! It has been another action-packed week. I keep thinking that it will slow down a bit--I don't it's going to happen--but that's okay as we like to stay active.

We had an exciting weekend of ministry in Sioux Falls, SD, at Calvary Assembly of God with Pastor Dave and Janine Tims. Dave is passion-driven to reach the lost! It literally physically pours out of him. We had a precious altar call.

Greetings from Sisseton! It has been another action-packed week. I keep thinking that it will slow down a bit--I don't it's going to happen--but that's okay as we like to stay active.

Pastor Dave and Janine Tims of Calvary Assembly of GodWe had an exciting weekend of ministry in Sioux Falls, SD, at Calvary Assembly of God with Pastor Dave and Janine Tims. Dave is passion-driven to reach the lost! It literally physically pours out of him. We had a precious altar call. I only regret that I wasn't able to get personal testimonies and photos from all of those who responded to the invitation. I can, however, tell you about one young man who came forward. I guessed him to be in his late 20's. I greeted him as he entered the church. He was tall, handsome, and stately dressed. I reached out to shake his hand and he said, "I'm so glad I could come this morning and finally meet you in person. My mother attended several of your services through the years and encouraged me to attend one if you were ever in the area....so here I am. I just wish my mother was here but she has since passed away." I offered The altar call at Calvary Assembl of God in Sioux Falls, SD. Thrilling!my condolences for the passing of his mother who I could tell he greatly admired. He sat at full attention during the service and when Larry gave the altar call, he readily responded. He stood and then made his way to the altar to receive Christ for the first time. How thrilling! At that moment, I wondered if God allowed his mother to look down from heaven to see the answer to her prayers that her son would come to Christ. That sure gave me more mileage to keep going. In the same altar call, a very poised grandmother and her beautiful teenage granddaughter walked down hand in hand to receive Christ for the first time together. It was another joyful reunion.

Don & Vicky HagenIt was also a delight to have our friends who were formerly from Sisseton, Don & Vicky Hagen, attend our rally. They shared the following about the rally:

We were blessed and refreshed by your recent ministry at Calvary Assembly in Sioux Falls, SD. The wonderful music, sharing, and message spoke to our hearts and spirits as it obviously did to the many who responded to the altar call. May you continue to walk in the Lord's blessings as you minister to others.

Sincerely,

Don and Vicky Hagen

Sioux Falls, SD

On the domestic front, we had a leak in the roof at our home which was allowing rain to come in and do damage to our ceiling. So, Larry had to get upThis gives me the shivers!!! Praise the Lord...it is fixed and no one fell off the roof! on the roof, along with our friend, Lynn Naber, to fix it. Yes...you guessed it....I freaked out a little bit as I saw him climbing up the ladder. Of course, I had a flashback of our last ladder incident and I told him, "First of all, I don't want you to go up there." He looked at me and asked, "Do you want your ceiling to fall in?" "No," I responded. I then proceeded to caution him to be really careful and I assured him that I was not going to hold the ladder...as my common sense told me, "Once is enough!" I am not about to take a chance of a 240 pound hunk falling on my again! Thank God Lynn was here to help him. I told Larry, "I'm not chicken...I'm just smart! I have one good leg to stand on and I plan on keeping it!" Anyhow, they did get it patched up!

Our granddaughter, Myanna, loves being with us. She makes friends quickly at the services and is so good to help Grandpa and I in whatever we need done. Last week I found a box of my children's newborn clothes that Larry brought out of the attic. You should have seen her eyes light up. "Grandma, they are just the right size for my doll," she exclaimed. I laundered them and I must admit I was surprised they didn't fall apart as some of them are 38 years old. Okay, yes, I'm a packrat! When the kids were little, they asked me to keep some of their toys and clothes for them, but for 38 years???? Bad thinking! Oh well, Myanna is putting them to good use and is enjoying them.

It hardly seems possible that the 4th of July is almost here. All my grandkids, Dante' and Myanna, can think of is fireworks! They know they can buy them in South Dakota and "softegg" Grandpa always gives in and buys some for them. I remember when the kids were still home, they loved the 4th of July as well. At sundown, they would ooh and aaah over the brilliant fireworks display at the park, lake, or wherever we were at that time. By morning, however, the only signs of the celebration were burned wrappers, singed fingers and smoke marks on the pavement. For too many Christians, serving God is like the 4th of July fireworks celebration: a once a year event. Once a year, they will really get enthused, do something great for God and then the put their effort, desires and zeal back in storage for another year. E. Paul Hovey tells about a foreign diplomat who once offered this Independence Day toast to the United States: "Let me congratulate you on the second greatest date in history." When friends asked him what he considered the greatest day in history to be, he replied: "December 25th, for had there been no Christmas, there never would have been a 4th of July." Isn't that good! Let's not forget, this 4th of July, to give the honor and respect due to the hundreds and thousands of men and women who have fought and given their lives for this country that we might experience the freedom we still have. As a nation, we are still blessed. Let's not take it for granted.

In the American Creed, William Tyler Page stated, "I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag and to defend it against all enemies." It is our privilege and duty to follow that creed. This 4th of July, have a great time of celebration, but don't forget what the real meaning of it is....Independence Day!

Just a quick sideline....you've heard of Charlie's Angels-well, these are Larry's Angels.  The girls from the office and Myanna celebrated Larry's birthday.  Notice the gift from Dairy Queen...his favorite place!

Have a great weekend!

Gloria

P.S. Please remember Larry and Evangelist Paul Murray as they travel to Latvia on July 4th. He will be gone until the 21st ministering on a missions trip.

Larry's Photo Pick of the Week

                                          Isn't she the cutest?

We couldn't pass up this photo moment! There's nothing like a good ice cream cone on a hot day! We were blessed by this little girl, Allison, enjoying hers!

            QUOTE OF THE WEEK

If you buy a fifth on the third, you might not live to see the fourth!

HOUSEHOLD HINT OF THE WEEK

                                           (from first-hand experience)

I spilled coffee on my white shirt the other day. In a panic because I knew it would stain right away, I looked around for something to douse it with. All that was available was my eyeglass cleaner so I gave it a try. It worked...the stain came right out!

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Summer Delight Dessert

1 can cherry pie filling

1 can sweeten condensed milk

1 cup walnuts, broken

1 medium can crushed pineapple

1 8 oz carton whipped topping

Fold together. Chill. Serve as a summer delight!

Hi! Another week is history already! It seems like spring has just arrived and now it is the first day of summer. As Larry said, "Enjoy this day (the first day of summer) because it is the longest day of the year." He continued, "After today, the days will start getting shorter." I told him, "You can keep those unhappy facts to yourself! HA! I want to savor each of these summer moments."

We had a wonderful weekend of ministry in Aberdeen, SD. It was extra special as it was Father's Day....

HA! I want to savor each of these summer momentMyanna with Grandpa Larry on Father's Days."

We had a wonderful weekend of ministry in Aberdeen, SD. It was extra special as it was Father's Day. We honored the fathers and Larry had an important message for the family. We sure missed not having our children with us on that special day. They did send beautiful cards and called home to visit with their dad. Of course, he loved that! Myanna made Grandpa a poster card of pictures of Grandpa with the children and grandchildren through the years. He melted when he saw it!

As usual, it was a joy to be back with Pastor Gary and Joni Wileman of First Assembly of God in Aberdeen, SD, and their three children, Nathan, Timothy, and Kristen. What a neat family! They have been dear friends to us all through the years.

They shared the following with us:Pastor Gary Wileman and his precious family!

Larry and Gloria,

Thank you again for your ministry with us last Sunday. We are grateful the Lord has used you so effectively in leading people to Christ. Nothing we do is more exciting than to see people step forward to receive Christ.

Thanks also for joining us for lunch at our home. It was enjoyable....and the kids enjoyed Myanna as well.

In His Service,

Gary & Joni Wileman

We had a good turnout at our rally in Aberdeen. The service was precious and the altar call touched our hearts. Among those that responded to the invitation was a young man in his early 20's that made a The altar call at Aberdeen. We were so blessed by these commitments made to Christ!first time commitment of his life to Christ. His mother, with her arms wrapped around her son, wept tears of joy. She had been praying for him a long time! What an unforgettable sight!

After the morning service, we were invited to Pastor Wileman's home for a delicious pot roast dinner and a "to die for" cheesecake. Yummy! Our granddaughter, Myanna, enjoys meeting people and loves eating the meals they prepare. She relishes all the action on the road and makes friends easily. Dan & Merilee Ottoson...Myanna loved the ministry of the Ottosons!Last week, she was so excited to be able to attend a Kids Crusade held in our home church led by Children's Evangelists, Dan and Merilee Ottoson, from Pelican Rapids, MN. Myanna was mesmerized by their puppet ministry, songs and stories. The Ottoson's do a great job in touching the hearts of children and young teens. Many received Christ into their heart through their ministry. That's the age to reach them....when they are young!

Myanna is a great help to me at home running my errands up and down the steps. It saves me a lot of wear and tear as well as pain to my leg that was injured. Speaking of that...I have had a bit of a setback with the leg that was broken. I had more x-rays taken last week. They think I am on my leg too much and the pain I am experiencing could be from scar tissue or the plates and screws. Every time, the excruciating pain hits, I stand on the Word where it says, "How beautiful are the feet of those who carry the Gospel." Be assured, in the natural, my feet are not beautiful but I realize when I carry the Gospel, they become beautiful. I pray, "Lord, these feet are carrying the Gospel, and I need good health and lack of pain to continue to do what you have called Larry and me to do...to win the Lost and encourage the hurting."
Jamie Schauer and Larry being "techies"!
We were also blessed this past week to have Jamie Schauer, of Galesville, WI, with us for a few days.  He is helping the ministry do some updating to our computer system.  We so appreciated him taking the time to come up to Sisseton and help us out!

Last night, as I was looking out my kitchen window, I could see the stadium lights on. There appeared to be a lot of action taking place. Sports are great events for kids and parents. I love seeing parents getting involved in the children's activities. It was getting quite late and the games and excitement were still going on. Boy, those fans were committed to the end!

I've often wondered what would happen if people were as intense, committed and determined about church as they are about sports- or any other number of pastimes. Years ago, a Moody Monthly listed twelve excuses a person might use to quit sports. The analogy isn't hard to figure out. Here they are:

1. Every time I went, they asked me for money.

2. The people with whom I had to sit with didn't seem very friendly.

3. The seats were too hard and not comfortable.

4. The coach never came to call on me.

5. The referee made a decision with which I could not agree.

6. I was sitting with some hypocrites-they came only to see what others were wearing.

7. Some games went into overtime and I was late getting home.

8. The band played numbers that I had never heard before.

9. The games are scheduled when I want to do other things.

10. My parents took me to too many games when I was growing up.

11. Since I read a book on sports, I feel that I know more than the coaches anyway.

12. I don't want to take my children, because I want them to choose for themselves what sport they like best.

Enough said! Think it over!

Gloria

            QUOTE OF THE WEEK

The trouble with a guy who talks too fast is that he often says something he hasn't thought of yet!

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

Grandfather would tuck his Bible under his arm and walk through the small town where he lived to Sunday School and church services. For the last five years of his life, he could not hear well, and he never heard a word of any sermon, yet he continued to go.

One day I asked him, "Grandpa, why do you keep on going to Sunday School and church when you can't hear a word he says?"

"I keep going," he replied, "Even if I don't hear because I want people to know whose side I am on."

SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK

"Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven and though upon earth; therefore let thy words be few."                 Eccl 5:2

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Vegetable Dip

1 pint real mayonnaise

1 cup sour cream

½ cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

1 Tbsp parmesan cheese

1 tsp garlic powder

1 Tbsp sugar

1 tsp accent, optional

Mix and let set 24 hours for best flavor.

It's a beautiful day! What a great day to be alive and to be at home in South Dakota. It has been fun to sit at my office table and watch the robins teach their young how to fly. Just a week ago they were still in their nest being served a dinner of worms by their mother.

It's a beautiful day! What a great day to be alive and to be at home in South Dakota. It has been fun to sit at my office table and watch the robins teach their young how to fly. Just a week ago they were still in their nest being served a dinner of worms by their mother. Larry and I left for two days due to services and when we came back, the nest was empty! The momma bird had already kicked them out teaching them how to fend for themselves. It is so cute as they are now flying low and hunting for their own food. I'm amazed how God created the instinct within animals to care for their own…and how quickly they learn. They say that humans are the most helpless creatures on earth. Maybe we, parents, could pick up a few tips from these birds and other animals! Ha! Back to the birds…we have a black cat roaming the neighborhood looking for fresh birds in the nest. The mother robin knows that unless she gets them flying, they will be eaten by the cat.

We, as parents, encounter the same parenting journey-only it's a longer process. The minute our children are born, the scripture in John 10:10 takes effect. It says "The thief cometh not but for to steal, kill and destroy." Satan is out to grab our children out of our homes and lives as soon as he can. He uses peer pressure, drugs, pornography, sex, alcohol, and whatever else he thinks will put our children into bondage. Especially in this day and age, we have to be even more alert and on guard instilling God's Word and righteousness in our lives in order to help them fight the fiery darts of the enemy. 1 Peter 5:8 says, "Be self controlled and alert, your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." God help us to take parenting seriously. I know we are concerned about our two grandchildren who are 13 and almost 8 years old growing up in this day and age.

Speaking of grandchildren, LaDawn drove home last Thursday night with Dante' and Myanna. Myanna is going to stay with us for most of the summer. Dante' is now 13 and has other events going on so he will come and go as he can. Dante' has been with us every summer since he was 6 months old.

Dante' enjoying his rootbeer float....they never run dry at Grandma and Grandpa's!As soon as they walked in the house, they were waiting for an invitation to have a root beer float with Grandpa. They know Grandpa Larry always has ice cream on hand! We spent all day Friday having fun with them. It just went by too quickly. LaDawn helped me remove photos off our 40th anniversary photo boards. It is a good thing she did or else they would still be on there for our 75th anniversary if the Lord should tarry! Ha! On Saturday morning, LaDawn and Dante' drove back to Minneapolis. As we hugged and kissed goodbye, Myanna whimpered, "Dante', I'll miss you," And he responded, "Me, too!" It's always fun having
                                                            the grandkids around.

On Saturday we drove to Watertown, SD, which is only 60 miles away and set Brad & Diane Grieppup at Christian Life Assembly. Myanna was a big help setting up. We were then invited out to Brad and Diane Griepp's farm for a home cooked meal and visit. Wow…Myanna ate like there was no tomorrow! Diane took her out to see the horses, chickens, and newborn kittens. She loved that! She came back in the house cuddling Brad and Diane's dog. Her eyes were dancing with glee.

Pastor Cliff & Mary SheldonSunday morning we had a precious service with our pastor friends, Cliff and Mary Sheldon. They, along with their youth pastor, Jeremiah and his darling wife,
hYouth Pastor Jeremiah and his wifeave such bubbly winning personalities. We had a fun time of ministry and once again, several rededicated their lives to Christ along with
a few that made first time decisions for Christ. Where the Spirit of the Lord is …there is liberty….and where there is spirit and liberty, people respond to the invitation to come to Christ.

Pastor Cliff and Mary shared the following with us regarding the service:

"Thank you once again, Larry and Gloria, for ministering in our church. We so appreciate the way God uses you both to minister to the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of those in the audience. Your ministry reaches out to all walks and ages and for that we are blessed, as well as those in attendance. We enjoy having you and look forward to having you back again."

Mary Shelton and Myanna

Watertown altar call...Glory be to God!

This Sunday is Father's Day. My father has been home in heaven for 6 years now and I still miss him. There isn't a day that goes by that he doesn't come to mind. I'm thankful that when my father passed away I had no regrets. We had a great relationship and every time we talked I told him that I loved him. If you still have your father, take the opportunity to visit, call or write to him. Tell him that you love him. If you've been estranged from him, make amends and forgive each other. Life is too short to harbor ill feelings. You'll be glad you did!

Have a wonderful Father's Day! God bless!

Gloria

            QUOTE OF THE WEEK

A man is rich according to what he is, not according to what he has.

STORY OF THE WEEK

What Is A Father?

A father is a creature who is forced to endure childbirth without an anesthetic.  A father growls when he feels good and laughs loud when scared half to death.

A father never feels worthy of the worship in a child's eyes.  He is never quite the hero his daughter thinks, never quite the man his son believes his to be, and this worries him-sometimes.  So he works too hard to try to smooth the rough places in the road for those of his own who will follow him.

A father gets very angry when the school grades are not as good as he thinks they should be.  So he scolds his son-though he knows it is the teacher's fault.  A father gives his daughter away to another man who is not nearly good enough-so he can have grandchildren who are smarter than anybody's.  A father makes bets with insurance companies about who will live the longest.  One day, he loses-and the bet is paid off to those he leaves behind.

I do not know where a father goes when he dies; but I have an idea that after a good rest, he will  not just sit on a cloud and wait for the girl he loved and the children she bore.  He will be busy there, too-repairing the stairs, oiling the gates, improving the streets, smoothing the way.
