Aloha from Hawaii! On January 15th we boarded American Airlines in Minneapolis, MN, at 9:00 AM. It was one of those mornings I did not want to get out of bed as it was 4 below zero outside, and there were two below cozy blankets (this would be Larry and me). We were at our daughter, LaDawn's, home when the alarm went off at about 6:00 AM. I peeked out the windows and the outside world appeared frozen...and it was! The thought of leaving a warm bed, and cozy house to go outdoors was at that moment undesirable.

I tried to cheer myself up by thinking that once we arrived at the airport and boarded the plane to Hawaii, we wouldn't experience this arctic weather again until next winter. That thought immediately energized me. While I was fixing myself a slice of toast I shared this with LaDawn, to which she responded, "It seems you and dad always know when an arctic front is moving in, and you leave for a warm climate, and I'm stuck here to endure it." I felt a bit badly that I had said that until we arrived 12 hours of flight time later and 3,776 miles across the water at the Honolulu airport. We disembarked the airplane, sauntered through the open-air terminal. Larry and I looked at each other with a look of glee and chuckled, "Yes...it was worth the miles and hours on the plane to see these palm trees, feel the soft trade winds and warm ourselves in the 75 degree temperatures." It was awesome!

Just before we left Minneapolis some friends chided, "Yeah, it must be rough having to go to Hawaii to minister." To which I responded, "I'm sure thankful there are people in these warm climates that need Jesus and need encouragement! And... Larry and I are willing to go."

We've been ministering in the Hawaiian Islands every two years since 1990 when I spoke at the Hawaiian Islands Women's Convention for the Assembly of God in Kona, on the big island. Women flew in from all the surrounding islands. What a wonderful time of spiritual refreshing we had! Larry and I bonded immediately with our island friends. These precious people wanted ministry, not entertainment, and that's where we bonded. Since then, we've come back every two years, and there have been multiplied hundreds who have made decisions for Christ.

Gloria with Marilyn Ah ZatThis past Saturday we drove to the other side of the island to Rev. Janet Cordeiro's church in Waimanalo. We were greeted by Marilyn Ah Zat who assisted us in our set up for the upcoming Sunday service. Marilyn hugged me and said "Gloria, do you remember me? I was at the conference in 1990 in Kona and I asked you to pray with me for my unsaved husband. Then, in February 1994, you and Larry came to Waimanalo and sang and preached at our church. When Larry gave the invitation for those who would like to receive Christ into their hearts, my husband, Ernest responded. I was so thrilled, and I'm still thrilled!"

That testimony gave me energy and encouragement to start this Hawaiian Island ministry outreach.

Sunday morning we had a precious time of ministry with Pastor Janet CoLarry with Pastor Janet Cordeirordeiro and her congregation. She is such a precious woman of God. This past year she and a few members of her congregation have started a prison ministry and over 160 inmates have made commitments to Christ. They go back each week and do Bible studies with those who gave their hearts to CLarry giving the altar callhrist. That's what I call, "Getting ministry out of the four walls." Sometimes we are willingly confined within the churches four walls. We are content to come, receive, eat and go home to go about our own lives for another week. I believe what God really desires is for us to come to church, worship Him, get set spiritually, be discipled, and then mentored for the entire purpose of taking His Light to the workplace, prison, hospitals, or whatever doors God opens for us.

Please, let me challenge you. The next time you go to church take a notepad with you. Take notes on what you've received and pray and ask God where He wants you to share this message. Someone will be waiting to be spiritually fed. You can change the eternal destiny of someone this coming week. Take the challenge! Respond to the Great Commission in Mark 16:15. "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation."

We appreciate your prayers for us as we minister here. Thanks!

Gloria

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

En route to Hawaii from Minneapolis we had a few moments before boarding. I decided to make a quick dash to the airport bathroom which was a ways from my departure gate. I scurried in, closed the stall door, and grabbed a paper tissue seat cover (by the way, I always appreciate in a public bathroom). I placed the seat cover on the toilet seat, and when I was finished, I pulled my slacks up and continued to automatically flush. I quickly made my way through the crowded bathroom and patiently made my way to the sink to wash my hands. I walked through another crowd of women to the exit door, and continued on about 8 feet into the main terminal. As I always do, I reached back to pull my sweater down and then...I felt it! The seat cover protector was stuck on my backside like it was glued to me. At first I panicked as I pulled it off and tried to ignore the countless number of passengers who saw it and who must have wondered if I really knew how to follow instructions like, "Please place seat cover on the toilet seat for your protection." And not on your seat after you have your slacks pulled up! Oh well...don't ask me how or why it happened. Laughing, I told Larry about it. He just chuckled and said, "If something crazy is going to happen, it will happen to you!"

So this week--- the chuckle was on me!

HOUSEHOLD HINT OF THE WEEK

Don't wrestle with a slippery cutting board. Use a section of foam fabric shelf liner (or rug gripper) underneath any glass, plastic, or wooden cutting board to hold it securely in place while you use it.

Greetings from Minneapolis, Minnesota! This month already reminds me of a speedometer on a car---each day is clicking away at an amazing speed. Nine days have already vanished!

Larry and I have had a busy month thus far taking care of office needs in Sisseton. We are now feverishly preparing and packing for our next on the road tour. It has been great to be home, allowing us the opportunity to work out of our home office wading through the various piles of paperwork that seem to accumulate in our absence. But now...both of us are ready to hit the road! We are anxious to sing, preach, and see lives changed through the grace and power of God.

This week we made a quick run to Minneapolis to have some medical tests conducted to insure that our bodies are ready for the race of 2008. Because seven of my brothers have experienced heart problems, and due to some symptoms I have been experiencing, I have been encouraged to have some cardiac tests done. Yesterday Larry drove me over to Health West Heart Clinic in Plymouth, MN, which is a branch of Abbott Northwest in Minneapolis. As God would have it, my doctor is Dr. David Hurrell who originally lived only 90 miles from Larry and my hometown of Sisseton. He took my blood pressure, looked over his glasses and reported, "178 over 86...not good. You look too relaxed to have that high blood pressure. We have to do something about that as that is stroke zone." Dr. Hurrell hesitated a moment and then said, "You're the Lundstroms. I'm familiar with your ministry and kind of followed it years ago when you were on the road." Then he continued, " How long have you been off the road?" Larry and I chuckled and said, "We're still out there!" Dr. Hurrell hesitated again and thoughtfully asked, "How many years have you been out there?" To which Larry answered, "46 years for me and 42 ½ years for Gloria." Dr. Hurrell shook his head in amazement and then announced, "Wow...that's a long time! It's hard to believe you are still out there. You must really have a passion for it." I chirped, "That's exactly what it is....a passion to help people find Christ and a passion to encourage the hurting."

In today's world of pressure, problems and deadlines, it is truly our passion for the Lost that has kept us pushing on.

Last night I saw printed on a napkin a saying from Mark Twain. It read, "Why not go out on a limb? That's where the fruit is." When I read that, I realized it kind of expresses Larry and I's outlook on ministry. We go here and there to out of way places wherever God calls us because there is fruit (those who need Christ) waiting to be picked. Yes, that is our passion!

We will be dashing back to Sisseton on Friday after I finish the various testing. We then pack for a 3 ½ month tour, close up the house and rush back to Minneapolis to catch a flight to Hawaii starting our next tour.

Yesterday, a friend called and said, "Wow! I see you are starting your tour in Hawaii. You will sure suffer for Jesus, huh? HA!" We responded, "Yes, isn't it amazing that people in paradise need Jesus too. If someone has got to go, it might as well be us." (Chuckle)

Due to our heavy schedule and traveling this upcoming week, we won't be doing the on the road update on the 16th. Check us out on January 23rd for the next update. In that e-mail, we will be sharing testimonies, photos and altar calls from our first week in Hawaii.

Thanks, again, for being a part of our on-the-road family. It means so much!

Gloria

POEM OF THE WEEK

TWO-THOUSAND-AND-EIGHT

By Lydia Chorpening (rlv-sog@charter.net)

Unclog all the channels

Make the cocked paths straight

This is our mandate

For two-thousand-and-eight.

Forgive your brothers

Remove every bit of hate

Then you'll walk in peace

In two-thousand-and-eight

Let your eyes stay focused

Don't lean on fate

Keep walking in faith

Throughout two-thousand-and-eight

Shake off any hindrance

Pick up your gait

Wholly follow the Lord

In two-thousand-and-eight

Arise with the dawn

So you won't be late

To spend time in God's presence

In two-thousand-and-eight

Leave the crooked behind

God's Word leads you straight

Be full of its wisdom

For two-thousand-and-eight.

"Let your eyes look right on [with fixed purpose],

and let your gaze be straight before you."

Proverbs 4:25 (AB)

"And cut through and make firm and plain and

smooth, straight paths for your feet…"

YOU WILL KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2008 when...

1.You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2.You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.

4.You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

8.Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10. You get up in the morning and go online before getting your coffee.

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )

12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

13.Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.

14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.

Our daughter, LaShawn, and her husband, Liam, along with our son, Donovan, drove in from Nashville, TN. LaDawn and her children, Dante' and Myanna, drove in from Minneapolis. January 2, 2008   The whole family at Christmas 2007...a wonderful time!

Happy New Year!

We had a wonderful Christmas...it seemed that it came so quickly...and was gone The newlyweds-Liam and LaShawnbefore we knew it. It was action-packed and so much fun! Our daughter, LaShawn, and her husband, Liam, along with our son, Donovan, drove iUncle Donovan and the grandkids playing one of the many games they played during their stay.n from Nashville, TN. LaDawn and her children, Dante' and Myanna, drove in from Minneapolis. The house was alive with laughter, story-telling, game playing and of course, much eating! We were blessed to all be together for four days. The grandkids loved making Christmas cookies, and playing Monopoly, Sorry and Catch Phrase. Of course, they so enjoyed having Uncle Donovan, new Uncle LaDawn, Dante' and MyannaLiam and Auntie LaShawn here. The weather was bitterly cold so as The cook...mmmmm!they say, "We hunkered down"... staying cozy inside our warm home and sharing memorable times together. I tried to cook everyone's favorite dishes and we enjoyed consuming every single calorie! HA!

On Christmas Eve, we all went up to see my mother, Gloria with her mom, Julie...92 years old!Grandma Julie, and three of my brothers and their families. It is always a joy to have Grandma (92 years old) with us. She is such a pillar of joy and strength to all. There were four generations represented at that Christmas celebration. The three brothers!

The Wednesday after Christmas, we drove to Minneapolis to have a Christmas gathering with Larry's family, the Lundstroms. Again, we ate, laughed and enjoyed seeing each other especially knowing we won't see one another for a while as we are leaving on a four month tour.

The cousins enjoyed their time together!

The Lundstrom family gathering!

In a whirlwind of events, we scurried back home to Sisseton on Friday to the shrill of silence. There were bits of Christmas wrap and bows here and there, a forgotten sock, leftover snacks and goodies scattered about. It all happened so Such precious gifts...our grandchildren!fast. I just wanted to rewind the clock and relive those four glorious days, BUT...life goes on and as the old saying goes, "I owe, I owe so off to work I go!" Thus is the reality of life, we must all go back to work. We will savor all the hours and precious minutes of this Christmas through moments stamped in our memories and photos until we all meet again.

Well, here we are-at the threshold of another year. What a year 2007 was!

The year 2007 saw the estimated United States population eclipse the 300 million mark and the estimated world population grow to 6.6 billion. Other milestones were Bill Gates retaining his title as the richest man, the first baby boomer filed for social security, the death of Evel Knievel--the greatest daredevil in history, the strike of Writer's Guild of America, the housing market money pit, the US dollar value decline, several heroes of the sports world suspended for steroid use, oil prices jumped past $90 a barrel, the YouTube revolution, advances in medicine, and in the Midwest, the collapse of the bridge in Minneapolis, droughts, floods and the great political debate.

Yes, lots of life-changing events took place...good and bad.

What will 2008 bring us? Ready or not, 364 days stretch out in front of us. What will be the story of our coming year? 2008 is full of nothing but seconds, minutes and hours waiting to be invested. How will we invest it? Larry and I have chosen to continue the Great Commission stated in Matthew 28:19-20, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." We still cherish our call and are anxious to "GO" and win the Lost!

We will put our trust in Him to lead and guide us through this year. We count on God to give us wisdom, peace in a strife-ridden world and strength when we are weary. I will hold on to Isaiah 26:3-4, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee. Trust ye in the Lord forever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength."

Yes, you and I can trust Him for strength for each day of 2008. Snuggle up to Him through the Word, worship and prayer and you will glide through another year!

Gloria

Resolve to save a few dimes this year...here's how!

- Change Your Lightbulbs - switch out your incandescent bulbs and you will reduce emissions and save money on your energy bills.

- Turn the Lights Off When You Leave a Room - Lighting uses 19 percent of worldwide energy consumption.

- Turn Off the Water When You Brush Your Teeth - Does it really need to be on when you aren't using it?

-Unplug Unused Appliances - Just because you are not charging your cell phone doesn't mean that the charger plugged in to the wall isn't using energy. Unplug it.

-Take the Bus or Walk - Do you really need to drive everywhere? You can fit a little exercise into your busy day this way too!

Larry and I flew from Minneapolis to Nashville on Tuesday, Dec 6th at 3:30pm and our daughter LaDawn and her children, Dante and Myanna, flew out at 6:30pm the same evening. LaShawn and Liam met us at the Nashville airport. Our son Donovan picked up LaDawn and the kids later. From the moment the airplane landed...the excitement and the action began. Friday was spent with LaShawn and her friend, Trish, finalizing wedding arrangements. On Friday night, Liam and LaShawn catered a BBQ dinner for both of their families. It was the first time we met Liam's family - and what a sweet family they are. On Saturday, we all went down to the Hermitage Hotel, where the wedding was to be held, for the wedding rehearsal. Following the rehearsal was a Groom's dinner at a beautiful Italian restaurant.

The clock seemed to wait for no one...and before we knew it, we were on our way back to the hotel on Sunday morning for the wedding.

Before the wedding I was with LaShawn, the bridesmaids, and her personal attendants, Trish and Anita, in a hotel room. When LaShawn was putting on her wedding dress...it hit me, "My little girl (they will always be little girls to me) is REALLY getting married." I stood mesmerized and in awe of the beautiful bride that stood before me.

In a few short minutes, the ceremony began. Our son Donovan walked me up first and then Liam's father was ushered down to the sound of the bagpipes being played. Liam's family is from Irish decent. The bridesmaids and Myanna walked down to meet the groomsmen.

The ceremony began. Larry had the honor of conducting the wedding message, vows and unity candle. I had the sheer delight of giving comments to the Bride and Groom and to officially welcome Liam into our family and hearts. Gloria and Greg Long

Greg Long, a friend of LaShawn and our family, sang the Lord's Prayer. That was so beautiful and special. Then...BOOM...they were pronounced husband and wife! The cake cutting and reception followed. Liam and LaShawnEverything was just so beautiful and memorable. We are so happy to have a son-in-law and we dearly love him.

We had hoped to have a larger variety of photos...but we were all in the wedding so we couldn't take them! And the photographer said it would take 4-6 weeks before they could get the proofs and photos done.

What a joyous occasion it was...now we're in the midst of the biggest occasion EVER...Christmas! Without the birth of the Christ child, there would not be Christmas. I like what J.D. Packer said, "The Christmas Our familymessage is that there is hope for a ruined humanity- hope of pardon, hope of peace with God, hope of glory- because at the Father's will Jesus Christ became poor, and was born in a stable so that thirty years later He might hang on the cross."

Christmas truly is a night to be remembered because God came to earth in the person, Jesus Christ. His humble birth was the beginning of the mighty work the Father accomplished for mankind-the plan and gift of salvation. How great is that! The gift is free, it is ours if we just ask for it and accept it. All we have to do is confess our sins and, in return, He gives us eternal life if we abide in Him.

This Christmas, amidst all the hustle and bustle of the holidays and all the events, remember...there is no Christmas without Christ!

Merry Christmas to you and your family and a Happy New Year!

Gloria

P.S. The next update will be January 2nd, 2008. Hopefully we will have some photos to share from our family Christmas!

Larry just arrived home from an exciting six day Christmas In Branson tour. The tour consisted of 44 adventurous passengers. I was supposed to be the 45th passenger but had a "health hiccup" two days before we were scheduled Preparing for the trip!to leave so Larry insisted I stay home and rest up as our daughter's wedding is December 9th, and we didn't want to jeopardize this event we have been anxiously awaiting. Larry and I have hosted tours for over 42 years and this is the first one I missed...so I guess my running record is still okay! HA! I sure hated being left behind however.

Larry and our friends boarded a beautiful charter coach last Wednesday The whole group!morning and headed off. Guests joined us from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Arizona. For many of them, this was a reunion tour as over 35 of them have gone with us before. After you have gone once, family bonds form and many desire to make it a tradition or annual event.

coffee break! The first stop was at the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, Missouri, and they then journeyed on to Silver Dollar City in Branson. The next three days were filled with nonstop action and excitement consisting of attending Christmas shows including Baldknobbers, Pierce Arrow, Celebrate America, Daniel O'Donnell, and the tour climaxed with Dino's Christmas Extravaganza, America's premier pianist and showman. Sunday morning, the group metMaking friends! in the hotel for a special church service with an hour of music, testimonies and a message by Larry.  Sunday afternoon, the group motored to Carthage, MO, and visited the world-known Precious Moments Chapel.

Needless to say, the group had a marvelous experience and times of fellowship and fun. The hours traveling back were spent playing games, doing devotions, sharing from the heart and singing. It's a family affair!

It is always a bittersweet time as the tour members disembark from the coach. Many of the guests asked "When and where are we going for the next fellowship tour?"  Three of the couples who went were family so it was a great family event for them to share as well!

Right now, Larry and I are packing and getting ready to board the flight that will take us to Nashville for our daughter, LaShawn, and Liam's wedding. With all the snow piled up here, I asked LaShawn what the forecast was for her wedding day and she chirped, "64 degrees!" I almost got a shouting spell when I heard that as it was below zero here last night. What a joy it will be to have nice moderate weather and not have to fight ice, snow and frigid temps. We are so excited for the wedding! (Can you tell?)

Due to our busy schedule...the wedding and family gatherings in Nashville along with everyone's busy December schedule... we will not have an update the week of December 13th. Lord willing, the week of December 20th, we will post some photos of LaShawn and Liam's wedding so be looking for that special "On the Road" e-mail.

God bless you and have a wonderful December remembering the true meaning of Christmas!  By the way, thank you for those e-mails that we have received referring to keeping Christ in Christmas. We appreciate hearing from you!

HOUSEHOLD HINT OF THE WEEK

Bring out the China...and keep it looking new!

Before you wash, scrape leftover food from your china with a rubber spatula (to prevent scraping) and rinse the dishes soon after the meal is done.

When you are ready to start washing, line the bottom of your sink with a rubber mat or soft dish towel. This will help to prevent dings and scratches from bumping around in the sink. Also, make sure to wash one china dish at a time so they are not hitting against each other.

Wash your china using only mild dish detergents and a soft dish cloth or sponge, not an abrasive pad. China should be washed in warm water. Washing china in hot water creates too great a temperature difference and can cause your dishes to crack or break. Slide china into the water on its side to more evenly distribute the heat through the dish. Washing china with a gold or precious metal trim in hot water is especially taboo; you will wash and flake away the edging.

Also, avoid rubbing dish detergents directly onto the metals.

To prevent coffee and tea from staining fine china cups, wash the cups soon after use in a solution that is one part hydrogen peroxide, three parts water, with just a drop of clear household ammonia. Rinse the dishes with warm, clear water.

If your china cups are already plagued by unsightly stains, you have a few cleaning options. Sprinkle a soft cloth with baking soda or salt and gently rub the stains away. A damp sponge sprinkled with cream of tartar should do the trick as well.

Gray marks on china left by cutting and scraping silverware can be rubbed away with a soft cloth dabbed with a little toothpaste.

Rub gently with the cloth to remove the gray marks.

Greetings from frigid South Dakota! Brrr...what a cold day. The mercury dropped to 11 below mercury last night! Through the years I've joked, "The older I get, the thinner my skin gets"...now I'm convinced that is true. I now know why people at a certain age head South when the cold weather arrives. They truly are smart- HA!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We drove to Minneapolis to see our daughter LaDawn, and grandchildren, Dante and Myanna. Thanksgiving Day we were all invited over to Lowell and Connie Lundstrom's home, along with Thanksgiving Day spent with Lowell and Connie!several cousins and other family members and friends. Of course, Connie had a delicious turkey and ham dinner with all the trimmings...and all the calories! That reminds me of a cartoon I saw a few days ago...Grandma is standing in the kitchen with her apron on preparing dishes for the big Thanksgiving meal and she says, "I love Thanksgiving, all the relatives come over-- we have four generations getting indigestion together." How true. Someone else said, "Thanksgiving is the home version of the 'all-you-can-eat buffet'." With Christmas coming up quickly, I'm sure it will be another repeat of that "all-you-can-eat buffet".

The "cousins" enjoying being together. The Friday after Thanksgiving, the Christmas fun- or should I call it frenzy- shopping began. In Minneapolis, a few of the stores opened at 1 am Friday morning. Our daughter LaDawn had to be at work at 4 am, so she had to get up at 2:30 am to get ready to go. Needless to say that was an early morning start!

According to the news clips on TV and radio, there are thousands of shoppers who love the rush and the excitement of that "Black Friday" shopping. Many years ago I entertained the thought. I agreed it would be a wild experience and decided to go. We were in St. Cloud, Minnesota at the time. The alarm went off, I looked outside, saw it was still dark and blowing snow... and crawled back into bed. That thought hasn't returned since then- I guess I'm just not for that kind of entertainment.

On Saturday after Thanksgiving we drove back to South Dakota. Since then we've been in a rush preparing for the Christmas in Branson tour that we are hosting. Forty-two friends will be joining us on the tour. A great number of them have been on our Fun and Fellowship Tours before. You truly become great friends after being together 6 days, and many make it a yearly tradition to go with us. It's a great time.

We always enjoy the yearly tradition of helping pick out the Christmas tree! The season now is in full swing as everyone is preparing for Christmas. All of our calendars will be filled with parties, family gatherings, Christmas programs, shopping, etc. Each of us will come in contact with many, many people--saved and unsaved. It is our season, as Christians, to shine and let the world know where we stand. One simple way is by using two words - "Merry Christmas". Dozens of business and establishments forbid their employees to say these words, and inform them to greet customers by saying, "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings". We all know the true meaning of Christmas- the birth of the Christ child. With those who are fighting to remove Christ out of Christmas, remove the manger scene and the tree, we need to take every advantage we have to keep Christ in Christmas. I would encourage you this season that when you meet others greet them, "Merry Christmas", and if they greet you with "Happy Holidays" quickly and kindly respond, "Oh, it's Merry Christmas- the season of celebrating Christ's birth...isn't that wonderful?" Be a light in this dimmed world- it needs it. Let's not lose Christmas.

Is my time up???

A 45-year-old woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. While on the operating table she had a near death experience.

Seeing God she asked, "Is my time up?"

God said, "No, you have another 43 years, 2 months, and 8 days to live."

Upon recovery, the woman decided to stay in the hospital, have a facelift, lipo-suction, breast implants and a tummy tuck. She even had someone come in and change her hair color and brighten her teeth! Since she had so much more time to live, she figured she may as well make the most of it. After her last operation, she was released from the hospital. While crossing the street on her way home, she was killed by an ambulance.

Arriving in front of God she demanded, "I thought you said I had another 43 years? Why didn't you pull me from out of the path of the ambulance?"

God replied, "I didn't recognize you."

Just doing some office work!

Greetings from Sisseton! It is great to be home, but oh my, what a whirlwind of events we have all the while trying to keep the home office going. For everyone it is a busy time of year.

Me and MomThe highlight of this past week was celebrating my mother's 92nd birthday. What a gift it has been to have her a part of my life for all of my 63 years. Monday night, about 25 family members gathered at "Mom's" for her birthday. We had planned on having a potluck meal but she loves pizza so we had a pizza party instead. Larry commented to me the next morning, "Gloria, your mom is the happiest when the family comes home. I watched the expression on her face when she heard the siblings, cousins and mates laughing and interacting. Her greatest joy is having the family together." Another observation he made was, "Your mom is so loved by everyone in theThe Brooks family family!" (There are now nearly 110 of us in the immediate family scattered from coast to coast.) My mom has a unique gift of loving each of us personally and equally. Also, she prays every day for each one individually. We all know her deep love for God and we all agree, "When Grandma Brooks prays, all heaven is at attention!" Her great faith in God has been instilled in each one of us and has left a great impact on our lives.

Six siblingsAfter our meal, Larry pulled out the ol' family slide projector along with slides that Mom and he had taken over 40 plus years ago of all of us kids. You should have heard the laughter filling the house when those old photos hit the screen. Of course, each sibling took their opportunity to tease one another about their hairstyles, clothes, expressions, etc. It was a very rich time spent together...there is just nothing like family!

This Thanksgiving, we are all thanking God for being so good to our family and allowing Mom to be with us another year. God has answered so many prayers this year and has literally raised one of our family members off a deathbed from cancer for which we are very thankful and wholeheartedly grateful!

Sometimes, when we are in the thick of the battle, we have to stop and think in order to be thankful. I like what Robert Louis Stevenson said, "The person who has stopped being thankful has fallen asleep in life."

Just think of all the prayers God has answered in our lives. How many answers has he given you??? A thousand? Ten thousand? Take the time to thank Him for it!

It is our prayer that you will have or are having a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration!

There was a little boy who asked his great-grandmother how old he was. She responded, "I'm 92 and holding."

The little tyke thought for a moment and then said, "How old would you be if you let go?"

When our son, Donovan, was about four years old, he was intently watching me prepare the Thanksgiving turkey. I washed it, dried it off with a towel, stuffed it, placed it in the roasting pan and slid it into the oven to bake. His eyes got big and he said, "Mom, why did you put the turkey in the oven, is he cold?"

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Yummy Spiced Almond Thins

½ pound butter, softened, do not substitute
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup sour cream
½ package slivered blanched almonds

In large bowl, beat butter and sugar with electric mixer until creamy. In another bowl, stir together flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir baking soda into sour cream; add to butter mixture alternately with flour mixture, blending thoroughly. Stir in almonds until well combined. Shape dough into a 2 1/2 inch rectangular log; wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm (at least 2 hours) or for up to 3 days. Unwrap dough. Using a sharp knife, cut into 1/8 inch thick slices; place slices about 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake in 350 degree oven for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for about a minute on baking sheets, then transfer to racks and let cool completely. Store airtight. Makes about 5 dozen.

To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new. Works like a charm!

Greetings from South Dakota! Last Thursday we were in Phoenix, Arizona where there were temperatures in the 90s! As we were sitting outside eating lunch with a friend who was going to take us to the airport, Larry and I, simultaneously looked at each other and whimpered, "Do we really want to leave this beautiful weather and head back to the Midwest?" Even if we had a choice, we still would've left. You see, we had three good reasons to fly to Minneapolis...our daughter LaDawn, our grandson Dante, and our granddaughter Myanna. Those three were enough incentive to get us on the move back to the Midwest.

Those three were enough incentive to get us on the move back to the Midwest.

Several hours later, after a layover in Dallas, we That's a lot of luggage!arrived at the Minneapolis International Airport. We shuffled through the ever long halls from one terminal to another. Larry chided, "Well you like to walk...this will definitely fit your quota for the day." It did, especially when we were loaded down with laptop computers and carry-on suitcases. We claimed our luggage - four HUGE suitcases- at the baggage claim and headed off to the curb. What a wake-up call when that 32 degree air hit our face! But what a joy to see that little white car of LaDawn's pull up to the curb. There's nothing sweeter than to be greeted by loved ones at the airport.

LaDawn and the kids

We were able to spend two days with LaDawn and the grandchildren in the Cities. We don't have that pleasure very often, so we really enjoyed every moment that we got to spend together. Of course, the grandkids were happy to have us there to fuss over them.

On Sunday we traveled onto Sisseton, South Dakota. It sure was good to see the lights of home. It has been a long year on the road. We are indeed weary in body, but thrilled for the hundreds of decisions that were made for Christ.

What a joy to be in our own home, in my own easy chair, and in my own bed- that doesn't have wheels under it- HA! Monday morning we woke up and had our morning coffee date. As I was sipping my coffee I looked across the small living room and saw a thick layer of dust on everything. That's what 2 ½ months without dusting will produce- HA! I could've easily written my name in it, but that didn't sound too entertaining to say the least. In a scurry, I did a quick dust and vacuum job so it would at least feel livable.

About 4 o'clock on Monday the doorbell rang, it was a delivery from the Flower Shop. She handed me a beautiful fall flower arrangement. I wondered, "Who sent that?" Anxiously, I opened the little card and it read, "I love you Mom and Dad...welcome home. - LaDawn" That made my day!

We'll be working at our home office this week. Boxes of mail are waiting to be attended to.

Next week is Thanksgiving. It seems like this year has sped by with lightening speed. We all have so much to be thankful for. I thank God for the thousand of miles that we safely traveled, for the hundreds who made decisions for Christ, for the miraculous provisions He has supplied, the peace He has given to us when all was in shambles, and for friends and family that God has healed...we are truly blessed!

In reality, we have to be thinkful to be thankful. We are often so busy and caught up in the cares and problems of life that we forget to hold onto the promises of God. The Bible says, "In everything give thanks...",1 Thessalonians 5:18. That's not easy...but as we chose to thank Him in every situation, God helps us through every situation. He says, "...My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness...", 2 Corinthians 12:9.

As you celebrate Thanksgiving next week, remember to share with each other the blessings of this past year. That's what Thanksgiving is all about!

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

T'was The Night of Thanksgiving

Twas the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn't sleep
I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep
The leftovers beckoned - the Dark meat and white
But I fought the temptation with all of my might.

Tossing and turning with anticipation
The thought of a snack became infatuation.
So I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door
and Gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.

I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,
Pickles and carrots, beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling so plump and so round,
Til all of a sudden, my belt came unbound.

May your stuffing be tasty. May your turkey be plump.
May your potatoes ' n gravy have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious. May your pies take the prize.
May your Thanksgiving dinner stay off of your thighs!

What a whirlwind week! Rev. Randy Dilts and other pastors who attended the Gothenburg rally

What a whirlwind week!  We were in North Platte, Nebraska the weekend before last and from there we drove to Gothenburg, NE for a wonderful evening of ministry at the Gothenburg United Methodist Church in which five or six churches participated.  I love it when churches unite to worship the Lord and reach out to each other and reach the lost.  I call it "practicing Heaven."

Rev. Randy DiltsMany responded to the altar call and made decisions for Christ. That's energy to Larry and me! When someone comes to Christ it's like a blood transfusion to us; it just gives us new lifeKelly and Becky McCoy and determination. We love seeing couples like Kelly and Becky McCoy who recomitted their lives to Christ at the Gothenburg rally.  We thank God for pastor friends like Rev. Randy and Deb Dilts that have a burning desire to see their community reached with the Gospel.  Rev. Randy Dilts commented,

"A wonderful evening of ministry occurred on October 30th, at Gothenburg First United Methodist Church!  Rev. Larry Viter from Faith Chapel, and Rev. Mark Borchardt from Victory Assembly assisted me as counselors and supporters of the event.  A number of first time commitments were made as well as a number of rededications.  Several folks said it was so enjoyable that they wished more would have been there!  That creates fertile ground for a return visit!!!  It makes it all the more enjoyable when we know that Larry and Gloria remain true to their call to reach the lost.  We KNOW that a salvation call will be made in an appropriate, Scriptural manner.  Larry and Gloria come to build up churches, not to injure them in any way.  We had Baptists, Lutherans, Evangelical Free and members of a Covenant church attend the rally, along with folks from the three supporting churches.  There was no discord because of a solid Biblical call to come and meet Jesus Christ!  Thanks for coming, it was good to see Larry and Gloria.  This event marks 20 YEARS of having them come to all the churches we have been appointed to."

Several friends drove in from the area for the rally.  We were especially thrilled to have Marvin and Mary Arehardt, their son David, daughter Susan and her husband Melvin Falk.  Susan shared this with us,

"We had a wonderful evening with everyone at the Gothenburg service.  The scripture verse that kept resounding in my mind was "I was glad when they Gloria with the Arehardt familysaid unto me. "Let us go into the house of the Lord." Psalm 122:1. The Holy Spirit was evident as you shared music and the message from God's Word. What an encouragement to see people go forward for the first time to receive Christ.

Being there brought back so many memories for us. Mel remembered the rally that he was in charge of in Franklin many years ago. He was brought down with some serious appearing "illness" at the beginning of the week. It worsened through the week with him not even being able to go upstairs to bed. He spent the nights in a Lazy Boy in the living room. The night of the rally, I wasn't sure he would even be able to go, but he did. As the evening went on, Mel began to improve and by the end of the counseling time, was completely healed!"

They have been such an encouragement to us over the past 25 years. They would invite us, along with a bus load of our kids and friends, to unwind on their farm in Nebraska and they'd fix us lunch.  Aren't friends wonderful?

From Gothenburg, we headed off on a 1200 mile journey to Pheonix, AZ where we will leave our motorhome for the next 3 frigid Midwest weather months. There is nothing worse than having waterlines freeze...we've had it happen once...and once is enough. Larry told me a few years ago, "A bird has a brain the size of a pea, and they fly south for the winter...we need to be equally smart and go to the warmer climates to minister." He continues with a smile on his face, "I'm sure people in those warm climates need Jesus too!"

We'll fly back to Minneapolis, MN November 8th and be back in our Sisseton, SD office by November 12th.

LeRoy BlackBefore we left North Platte, NE Larry insisted on going and seeing the train yards. LeRoy Black was so kind to take him out and see them as he is employed by Bailey Yards. It's the biggest train yard in the U.S. and the second largest train yard in the world. It has over 400 tracks by which approximately 175 tracks are for sorting and they travel to destinations all over the U.S. There are freight cars, box cars, tank cars, refrigeration cars, flat cars, auto rack cars, plus many more! Bailey employs about 3,500 people. Needless to say, Larry was mezmerized by the endless web of tracks that headed every direction.

Just like life...there are thousands of spiritual or denominational tracks...everyone declaring that their track is the right track to Heaven or..."to bliss" as they say. But, Jesus says in John 14:6, "I am the Way the Truth and the Life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me." You can't depend on the goodness car, the baptismal car, the confirmation car, the catechism car, church attendance car, tithing car, or the just believe car to get you to the right place. Jesus said that no man can come to the Father but through Him. We all have to aknowledge that we've sinned, confess our sins and believe in Jesus Christ. When you get connected to him by repentance and conversion and grow and mature in Him you can be assured you're on the right track going the right direction and ending up at the right destination, which is Heaven.

Prayerfully, you are on the right track. If you're not sure you can pray right now and ask Jesus to come into your heart. He will meet you and He will give you the ticket to eternal life. That, my friend, is exciting! Have a great week!

**NEW FEATURE....we would love to hear from you! We now have a guest book available on our website. You can send us a note or comment regarding the weekly update or the ministry. We want your feedback. Just click on "Guest Book" on the side menu, register and post your message!  Some of you may have tried to post a message before- we have fixed the problem, so please try again!

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

A porter, loaded down with suitcases, followed a couple to the airline check-in counter. As they approached the line, the husband glances at the pile of luggage and said to his wife, "Why didn't bring the piano, too?"

"Are you trying to be funny?" She replied.

"No, I really wish you had," he sighed. "I left the tickets on it."

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Twice-Baked Sweet Potatoes

6 medium sweet potatoes

2 Tbsp. butter, softened

½ cup orange juice

1 (8 oz.) can crushed pineapple, drained

2 Tbsp. brown sugar

Pierce sweet potatoes with a fork. Bake at 400 degrees until tender, 45-60 minutes. Let potatoes cool slightly. Cut a thin slice off the top of each potato and scoop out pulp, leaving a thin shell. In a large bowl, mash potato pulp; stir in butter, orange juice, and pineapple. Refill potato shells. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes, until heated through.

HOUSEHOLD HINT OF THE WEEK

Create a wonderful enhancement for your meals. Soften a stick of real butter to room temperature. Mince 1/4 cup of fresh herb of your choice (basil, chive, oregano, rosemary, thyme). Blend the butter and herb, and store in an airtight container. Enjoy with breads and vegetables for up to three weeks.

Greetings from Nebraska...the Cornhusker State! We have been blessed with Indian Summer, an extension of beautiful weather. It was 75 degrees yesterday. I would have loved to have placed the gorgeous day, weather and all of its elements in a time capsule and releasing it during one of those cold winter days in South Dakota.

Last weekend we drive to North Platte, Nebraska, for a weekend of ministry. What a sweet time it was! Again, we were greeted by a loving congregation and a kind and compassionate pastoral couple, Rev. and Mrs. Dennis Leitner. Everyone was so gracious and they came to church with anticipation of what God was going to do. If we just lift up Christ, He does the rest! Larry and I stand on the side watching God draw people to Himself. Awesome! All ages responded to the altar call with many recommitting their lives to Christ along with others who gave their lives to Christ for the first time.

Dennis & Linda LeitnerLast weekend we drive to North Platte, Nebraska, for a weekend of ministry.

Pastor Leitner shared the following regarding the rally:

"It was truly delightful to have Larry and Gloria in our morning service at Calvary Assembly of God. It is so Altar call at North Platte, NErefreshing to hear the Gospel message emphasizing the Lord's call to the Lost. Our whole church body was blessed and ministered to by the anointed songs, testimonies and the Word. Many responded to the altar calls...both for salvation and rededication. Thank you, Larry and Gloria, for your ministry and friendship to Calvary."

In the congregation that morning, there must have been nearly 100 people who have followed our ministry through the years so we felt right at home. Clenda KrizekOne of those people is Clenda Krizek, the church administrator of Calvary. She is electric with the love of Jesus-and she definitely gives off a sweet aroma of Jesus. She had this to say regarding our time of ministry there,

"What a wonderful service we had with Larry and Gloria. Their simple, but very impacting way of presenting the Gospel really ministered to me. I am so thankful for the response from our people to the altar call. We do serve an awesome God. When Gloria shared her testimony, it really touched me because of the prayers of God's people. Their music ministry was wonderful as well. Larry and Gloria are just like family. They have been such a blessing to us."Mmm...brownies!

Sunday night, the church held an event which they call, "Weenollah" (Halloween spelled backwards). It was a family night of costumes, games, prizes, sloppy joes, and much more. What a fun time of fellowship! Of course, we were mesmerized by all of the lovable toddlers in their adorable little costumes with their faces embellished with paint and food. Too cute! There's nothing like kids and watching their excitement...it's contagious! Of course, Larry liked all the treats too.

Last week en route to North Platte clear from the Canadian border, our pastor friends in Winner, SD, invited us to stop overnight. Just hours before we arrived, their daughter went into labor and consequently, they raced off to North Dakota to be with her. Because they had to leave before we arrived, they called and told us they had left keys for us making their home available to us to relax in, do laundry, and to also hook our motorhome up to the church for electricity. We pulled in, and Larry took care of the first task of hooking up to the electricity at the church. The wind was blowing ferociously outside and I was anxious to get some long overdue dirty laundry washed so I asked Larry for the key to the house. He tossed me a key ring with over a dozen keys on it. I looked at the keys, of which, most of them looked identical so I questioned Larry, "Which one is the key to the house?" He replied, "I don't know. You will just have to try each one until you find the right one." In my eagerness to get inside that was not the answer I was wanting to hear. I wanted an easy, "This one." But, he didn't know so I sauntered up the sidewalk with keys in hand, arms loaded with laundry and the wind gusting all around me. I stood there against the gale and tried one key after another. By this time I was getting a little frustrated as I began to insert the tenth key into the lock, "Come on now. I am tired of this guessing game." Then, ever so smoothly, the key slipped, turned and I was in. What a relief it was to be in out of the wind!

Sometimes I face situations and trials in life where I am begging God for direction and it is similar to this key experience. God gives us keys to get through the trial, but I weary of the battle, the winds of discouragement; I just want a simple key to victory. However, it doesn't always work that way. Someone once said, "Many times we pray and ask God to remove the storms from our lives, but oftentimes God will allow the storms to rage and He will calm the man in the midst of the storm." Our key to victory is available and it is right there. Jeremiah 33 says, "Call on me and I will answer thee and show thee great and mighty things." Jesus is the Key, but it requires time in the throne room to connect with Him. Our tendency is to be impatient wanting the answer now, in our time and how I want it. Robert Schuller said, "Within every adversity lies a slumbering possibility." Yet, I love what Jesus says in Mark 9:23, "If thou canst believe, all things are possible."

He is the Key! Are you facing a trial today? Call on Him. He is waiting for you!

Have a great week!

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

Police story

It was the end of the day when I parked my police van in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking. I saw a little boy staring at me, "Is that a dog you've got back there?" "Yeah. It sure is." I replied. Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then towards the back of the van. Finally he said, "What did he do?"

Teacher

TEACHER: "Can anyone give an example of 'coincidence'?"

JOHNNY: "Sir, my mother and my father got married on the same day, same time."

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH

October is Pastor Appreciation Month. Please be sure to make a special effort to let your pastor, wife and staff know how much you appreciate them. It would be great if you could give them a "green" handshake (in other words a little gift of money or gift certificates for restaurants or fuel.) They do so much for us and make great sacrifices to serve their congregations.
