On August 16th, we were in Grand Rapids, MN for a Sunday morning service with our friends pastor Brian and Bonnie McGuire. It was a joy to be back with them again. There were a host of visitors at the service who we've met through the years. We had a precious service and altar call; there were over 20 decisions for Christ, with over half of those being first-time decisions.

August 26, 2009

Greetings from the great state of Minnesota - Land of 10,000 lakes. The drive here from South Dakota was beautiful with all the towering pines, lakes, wildflowers - it truly has all the looks and perks of vacation land. The roads were crowded with traffic of tourists and families trying to squeeze in the last vacation before school starts.

Pastor McGuire and family

On August 16th, we were in Grand Rapids, MN for a Sunday morning service with our friends pastor Brian and Bonnie McGuire. It was a joy to be back with them again. There were a host of visitors at the service who we've met through the years. We had a precious service and altar call; there were over 20 decisions for Christ, with over half of those being first-time decisions. After the service I was sifting through the decision cards and Altar call in Grand Rapids, MNwas so touched to see people of all ages and all walks of life who turned to God.

Jason Reed and familyThere was a joy of a testimony like that of Jason and Carol Reed from Cohasset, MN. Jason sauntered up to me and said, "My parents came to Christ under your ministry years ago and our family and our lives were never the same again. Thanks for being at the right place at the right time." His wife Carol added, "Oh, I have followed your ministry for years and years, since I was a little girl." (wow - that made me feel old -ha!) The Reed's are such a sweet family.

The night before, Larry went into McDonald's for an ice cream cone (can you imagine that), and the employee, Linda Linda SchumacherSchumacher, greeted Larry at the counter and said, "Larry, I know you. I'm coming to see you and Gloria tomorrow. Larry, my dad got saved in your service here 3 years ago. He now has terminal cancer and is in his last days - but thank God, we know he'll be in Heaven and we'll see him again." When I talked to Linda on Sunday I told her the trip here 3 years ago would've been worth it, even if only for her father. With tears in her eyes she acknowledged, "Yes, it would've been." It's those testimonies that give us the strength to keep pushing on to win the Lost.

Pastor Art & Joyce Woods
The following Sunday, we had the true privilege of returning to Park Rapids Assembly of God with our long-time friends, Pastor Art and Joyce Wood.  This is "another" great ministry couple that have been doing a wonderful job of shepherding their flock for many years.  We had a great service and altar call!

"Sunday,  August  23, was a very special service.  Truly, it was a very uplifting time.  The Lundstrom's  ministered  powerfully  the Gospel message of salvation and  a  committed  walk with Christ.  Resulting from the altar call, there were three new converts, two adults and one teen, and eight that rededicated their lives to the Master.  Not only did they minister effectively in the Church but also in the community wherever they went.   We are really looking  forward to them coming back this  coming weekend for a  ladies  retreat where Gloria will be  ministering to many ladies from the area.

We were very pleased with their ministry and our people really enjoyed the genuiness and joy Larry and Gloria exude.  Altar call at Park Rapids, MNLarry and Gloria will  always be  welcomed by our people at  Park Rapids Assembly of God Church."

The youth pastor, Travis Cerven, at Park Rapids Assembly of God shared this with me after the service,

"I really, really enjoyed you guys.  You have a special connection with teenagers and young couples and that was proven at the altar call.  Larry, I also really appreciated you sharing some soulwinning tips with me."

Myanna & Dante at the lakeI was just sitting here thinking about how quickly this summer has passed by, especially with all the events and busyness. I was thinking back to a couple weeks ago when LaDawn and Dante and Myanna spent a couple days with us in Minnesota. The grandkids begged Grandpa to come into the lake and swim with them. Being the kid he is… he did. They played, had water fights, giggled and laughed. After they ran out of energy, Myanna got on her green river raft and was floating in the water. Amidst all the fun, Myanna noticed that she had floated out to a depth over her head, panicked and hollered for Papa! Quickly he dashed towards her and soon was up to his chin in the water. She hollered again as Larry stretched out his arms into the deep water to grab the raft. Successfully, he was able to grab a corner and pull her into shallow water. Relieved, but still a bit scared, I heard Myanna say to Dante, "Dante, Grandpa would've been willing to die to save me." What a touching compliment.

How grateful I am that Jesus was willing to die for the entire world…that we would and could be saved from eternal damnation. I am grateful…aren't you?

Have a great week - blessings on you!

Gloria

  Pastor John & Naomi Brady

Hello---what a beautiful August day! It couldn't be more perfect!

Larry just arrived back home from Orlando, FL. (Yes, you heard me right… Orlando, FL, in August…yikes! Hot, hot!) Larry was invited by Pastor John and Naomi Brady of the Minot Assembly of God Church in North Dakota to help host a group of young people and their chaperones to the General Council Convention of the Assemblies of God. Many of the teenagers were involved in the Fine Arts Festival in which several thousand young people compete with their various talents through music, drama, singing, preaching and many other avenues.

Larry told me the attendance at the conference was about 27,000---now that is a lot of people on the move! This conference is held every two years somewhere in the United States in the month of Crossing the Florida state line!August. Larry has had the privilege to attend every General Council since 1961. It is a good opportunity for him to reconnect with pastors and old friends, as well as, to make new friends and open the doors for scheduling rallies in fresh areas with newly acquainted pastors. The trip from Sisseton to Orlando and back was a total of 3,600 miles. That is a long trip! Larry also served as a relief driver for the bus driver during this marathon trip. I would say that Larry has had enough experience driving motorcoaches to be of help! (Chuckle!) He was also excited to be able to spend time with the young people in order to challenge them in soulwinning and to encourage them that they can be a light in a dark world making a profound impact on their peers' lives. We Some of the kids on "Beach Day"desperately need this young generation to reach others in their generation. There are so many that are already lost, broken and hurting at such young ages. Who will reach them?

Mom and INow…for me…I stayed at our home office and alternated between keeping fires going and putting fires out. I am on the road about 9-10 months out of the year so I long for this time to be "home". I capitalized on this time and took the privilege of spending extra moments with my precious mother who is 93 years young. She is amazing and so full of fun and life. I also had a surprise….our daughter, LaShawn, from Nashville, TN, came through this area so I was able to spend nearly two days with her. It is a rare occurrence with both of our traveling schedules---if we are here…she is there…and vice versa! I miss my children and grandchildren so much; if we are anywhere close, we try to grab the opportunity to see them whenever we can. Larry was also able to sneak in some time with LaShawn on his way back to Sisseton.  All in all, it was a busy but enjoyable week. Any time with family is precious!

In the midst of all of the above, I tried to tackle two closets that desperately needed some attention. To put into simple terms…they were too full so they had to be sorted and I needed to determine what things to get rid of as they were taking up prime space. I decided to take some of the better pieces of clothing to a consignment shop that was suggested to me. I carried into the store three armloads along with a couple of bags. A very pleasant lady went through the items piece by piece, smiled at me and said, "These are really nice clothes, but they are too mature for the clientele we serve. We carry clothes for teenagers and college students." I was deflated! Wearily, I hauled them back to the car and laid them back in the trunk. A college student (I think she felt sorry for me) offered to help me carry out one of the last loads and then said to me, "I know another place but I think you have to have an appointment," and she proceeded to give me the store's phone number. I called the number hoping to be able to get this business done as quickly as possible, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to get in until the next day.

Early the next morning, my daughter and I scurried down to the other consignment shop. The owner bid me to come in and bring my things so she could assess them. This time I had LaShawn to help me with this task for which I was so thankful. Out of breath, carrying the last load of hangers, I laid my items on the counter. The owner looked over her glasses at me and said, "I want you to know right now that I am not easy to work with." I smiled at her statement and thought to myself, "Please just make me happy and take these clothes." Again she barked, "I don't take winter, fall or seasonal clothing. I don't take stained, dirty, torn, wide collared, or padded shoulder clothing," and then added dramatically, "or anything pink!" Somehow I got the feeling, she was correct in her self-assessment…she wasn't going to be easy to work with.

As she sifted through the piles, she responded, "Too seasonal, too warm, too dressy, don't need mens' suits, too dark," and then added as she picked up the next few pieces, "dated…dated…dated…dated." By this time, my ego and self-confidence were getting shredded. One store sent me away saying my clothing is too "mature" and then at the next, they are too "dated". When all was said and done, she kept about 8-10 pieces of my wardrobe and then sent me off with, "Take these…I don't want them." She peered at me over her glasses and announced emphatically, "I told you…I'm hard to deal with." Arms loaded with most of what I had carried in, I graciously thanked her for the few pieces she took, completed the paperwork and headed on my way.

Long story short….I drove to the Boys Ranch Thrift Store. The back doors were open with people working. I backed my vehicle up to the doors, and one by one I removed my once dearly loved but dated and mature clothing, and gave them to the young employee. I smiled a smile of relief as I drove away. Wow! After the experience was all over, LaShawn and I had a good chuckle together. I discovered it is easier to buy clothes than to get rid of them.

Lesson learned….I am sure glad that when I came to Christ (and I am sure when you think back of when you came to Christ), He didn't bark to your heart, "You're too old. You're too young. You've failed too many times. You are a horrible sinner. There is no hope for you." I am so grateful that He didn't doom us to hell but He instead says, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28) He displays His love for us in John 3:16-17, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."

Christ simply bid us to come just as we were and promised He would stay with us and mold us into what He wants us to become. When I came to Christ at the age of 8, I was young and He has stayed with me as I "mature".

Well, that is my life lesson learned for this week. I am so thankful that Jesus Christ is no respecter of persons and He deeply loves each one of us. I pray that you will remember and rediscover how deep, how wide, how great is His love for you!

Gloria

On Wednesday, July 15th, we drove to Sumner, IA, to sing and minister at the Faith Evangelical Church. From the moment we drove into the community, we felt excitement in the air. As we drove down Main Street, I said, "Larry, look!" Up on the movie theatre marquee, it read, "Land of the Lost, PG-13" and then directly underneath, "Lundstrom Event at Faith". I thought how fitting that was as we came to reach the lost in that community. How timely!

July 29, 2009

July is almost history! It was another action-packed month. We just returned from an exciting tour in the state of Iowa.

How timely! We drove into the church parking lot and were greeted by exuberant church members anxious to help us load in and set up. They were upbeat and joyful…very willing to help and assist in any way they could. Years ago we ministered there with the Lundstroms when we conducted a Citywide crusade in which great numbers came to Christ. Now, these many years later, many of those who made decisions in that rally have grown and matured in Christ plus those who have worked as counselors are still there encouraging, serving GodSumner, IA altar call and making an impact on the community.

As the church began filling up with visitors and church members, the enthusiasm of the event reverberated throughout the sanctuary. We began to sing and, the congregation began to clap and smile. It was like an ol' fashioned campmeeting. When the altar call was given, those who were hungry for Christ streamed up to the altar to pray. Later on, I met a young man in his 20's who towered over me at 6'6 coming out of the counseling room. He looked down at me with tears in his eyes, shook his head and said, "Wow…the only word I can use to describe tonight and what happened at the altar…is AWESOME!" God is good!

Orval and Pauline Leyh invited us over for a delicious home-cooked meal of ham, scalloped potatoes, Orval & Pauline Leyhcandied carrots, salads, rolls and fresh apple pie. What a treat! Our granddaughter, Myanna, savored every bite….and so did we! They shared this about the rally:

"Sumner Faith Evangelical Church was blessed to have Larry and Gloria Lundstrom at our church the evening of July 15th. It was a Wednesday evening, and me of little faith was sure the crowd would be very small. God was faithful in having all there that He wanted there. God is good all the time. We had many re-dedications and several found the Lord Jesus as their personal Savior for the first time.

We also enjoyed their ministry in music as well as in humor----they are a delight to all. We were truly blessed by God's presence in using Larry and Glory to minister to us."

Stephen & Ann Zubke with some of their children

We are always so thrilled when families attend the rallies. Stephen and Ann Zubke and their family from near Randalia, IA, were no exception. They came with 8 of their 10 children (the older two were on a mission's trip). They are from left to right (back row) Rebekah, Hannah, Renae, Joel, Philip (front row) Bronwyn, Annika, and Faith. Each one of them was a delight. It brought back memories of when I was young---believe it or not, I can still remember some of those things---and growing up with ten brothers. You learn so much in a large family….to love, give and forgive! We are still a very close family. Stephen told me, "I remember being a kid when you came to Oelwein, IA, for a crusade in 1966, traveling in an old blue bus. It was great then and the ministry was just as great tonight."

Herb & Marilyn Hoepfner

Herb and Marilyn Hoepfner of Sumner, IA, were counselors for the evening's service. They were so elated at the number of those that responded to the salvation message.

"Thank you Larry and Gloria for coming to our church in Sumner, IA. Much prayer went into the preparation before the service. The event was well attended and the Holy Spirit was there. Many people came forward and rededicated or gave their live to Jesus Christ that night."

- Herb& Marilyn Hoepfner, Faith Evangelical Church

From Sumner, we drove back to Waterloo, IA, where we held two morning services on July 19th with Pastor Rev. Don Cox and Richard ThomasDon and Alice Cox. It was so good to be back with them at Celebration Assembly of God. Pastor Don Cox has been a spiritual mentor to Larry and I for several years. We cherish our time together and always leave strengthened and refreshed to "go for it and win the Lost". Thank you, Pastor Cox.

Attending the service was Richard Thomas, a jazz artist and pastor that was involved with ministry in New Orleans who went through Hurricane Katrina and the devastation that followed. He walked up to me and tearfully but cheerfully said, "Thanks for your service this morning. I really needed this. The devil has really been attacking me and my marriage. I have been facing discouragement and confusion. This morning I came in really disheartened. During your music, Gloria's sharing and Larry's sermon, I was really touched. I received hope again to get back in there and do what God has called me to do. Thanks so much!"

Happy Birthday Myanna!

We have had our granddaughter, Myanna, with us for nearly six weeks. She went back home on July 26th to be with her mom and brother. She turned 11 on July 27th. She's growing up so quickly - we will miss her!

Chuck & Brenda Corwin, Larry & Barb Lamfers and other dinner guests

While we were in Waterloo, we also had the opportunity to catch up with a few other friends.  Chuck & Brenda Corwin has us over for a delicious home-cooked meal and fellowship which we thoroughly enjoyed.  Brenda's sister, Barb Lamfers was there too - they are twins, can you tell?

Larry & Diane Everts

Larry & Diane Everts, another couple who are dear friends and partners of the ministry took us out to visit Amish country.

Last Saturday and Sunday, we had the joy of attending a family reunion consisting of relatives on my father's side…Clair Brooks. There were about 55Brook's Reunion in attendance. It was truly a pleasure to see my cousins and their families that I seldom have the opportunity to see. One cousin looked at me in the lobby and said, "You've got to be a Brooks. You look like a Brooks!" For those two days, we would laugh as we looked at each other and all the relatives; we definitely saw the resemblance. We knew that we were a part of the Solon-Brooks family.

As great as that is…I truly want to live my life so that when people meet me or see me, they will see the love of God in my life. I pray that they will see a resemblance of my Heavenly Father in me. If that happens, I will feel that my life has not been lived in vain.

Matthew 5:16 says, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in heaven."

Well, it is time to say good-bye again! Have a wonderful August and we will talk again in a few weeks.

Gloria

"Finally!" I exclaimed, flinging open the front door as the driver walked up to the house. "I've been waiting twelve years for this!"

"Don't blame me, lady," he said. "I just got the order this morning."

Rev. Alan Hazelton

Last Thursday night we were in Harlan, IA, at First Assembly of God with Rev. Alan Hazelton.  The youth group turned out

Harlan, IA youth
in full force…and wow…are they turned on for God! They helped advertise, push the rally and invited some of their unsaved friends. When the altar call was given, several teenagers gave their hearts to Christ for the first time. Talk about celebration….this photo shows it!

That same night, we were overjoyed to see partners Gary and Phyllis Hanson from Irwin, IA. We first met them in 1983 when they came to our service and Phyllis gave her heart to Christ that morning. At that point, Gary & Phyllis Hansonshe informed us her marriage was in trouble and she was suffering from severe depression. The other night, Phyllis said,

"Our lives have been completely changed. My husband came to Christ later that year. Since then we are involved in the church praise team and the CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association) which has taken us to Florida, California, Canada and the big Sturgis, SD, bike rally to share Christ. We have now become involved in a new area of ministry call the SOWERS (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready). It is a ministry designed for retired-aged couples who have a RV and drive to locations all over the U.S. to work on construction, painting, etc. We are also involved in the Orlando, FL, area and work at the Africa Inland Mission where we work with missionaries and retired missionaries.

Serving the Lord is sure a blessing. All of this came about because of your ministry and us getting saved. Thanks for giving us this chance to experience this new life."

P.S. " The best things in life are not things!"

Candie OlsonAnother "pearl" in that Harlan altar call was Candie Olson, a mother of two. She walked up to me in the fellowship hall radiating such joy.

"I don't want to bother you, but I want to share something with you. I was raised in a single parent home and never knew what a father's love was. I always felt a void and emptiness in my life. Two weeks ago, I attended a funeral of my friend that was 21 years old that died of cancer. I felt Harlan, IA altar callsuch compassion from the pastors who officiated the funeral. I was moved by their compassion. I have been coming back for two weeks. Tonight, I loved your music and was especially touched when you expressed that God is always with us all the time. I needed that! While I was sitting in the service and came to the altar, I felt a tugging at my heart and I heard God say that tonight was the night that I should give my heart to Him and that He would fill the void. I did and I feel so happy and free. Thank you for being here!"

From Harlan we drove to New Sharon, IA, where our friend, Lois Stephens spearheaded a rally at the Rock Center on Saturday night. It was a precious night of ministry. There was mostly a Christian crowd, but we New Sharon, IA altar callwere thrilled to see five respond to the altar call. A counselor rejoiced, "We have prayed years and years for that gentleman…he would only go to church on Easter and Christmas, but he came tonight and gave his heart to Christ." His response was definitely an answer to many prayers that have gone up to the Lord for years on his behalf.

We were grateful to have Pastor Kerry Lake from Union Mills Christian Church in Union Mills, IA, and Pastor Dave Pinkerton from Tainter Community Church in Tainter, IA, cooperate in this event, along with Harvest Community Church in New Sharon.

New Sharon area Pastors

Pastor Lake's comments:

"I enjoyed the music, the message and the Spirit in the meeting."

Pastor Pinkerton:

"It was good to hear the Gospel message in clear and concise words. Praise God for sharing the truth to meet the needs of hurting people. "

Us with Lois Stephens

Lois shared,

"Dear Larry and Gloria,

It was such a pleasure to have you return to New Sharon for an evangelistic rally. We so enjoyed your ministry in song and Word. As the anointed message was proclaimed, God moved on hearts and people responded to the altar. We praise God for your ministry.

It was also my privilege to attend your Sunday morning services at the Community of Hope Church in Montezuma, IA. Again as God's Word was preached and anointed, many people came forward to accept Christ. It is such a joy to see people accept Christ as their Savior. As Larry said at dismissal, 'Heaven is rejoicing with us over those that were saved'.

I also enjoyed our time of personal fellowship. It was priceless! May God continue to guide and protect you as you continue on the road for Him."

Rev. Todd & Jennifer Jones

Last Sunday morning we had two services with Pastor Todd and Jennifer Jones at Community of Hope A/G in Montezuma, IA. Talk about powerful services and a powerful anointing. There were over 30 that made first time commitments to Christ and rededications to Christ. After the second altar call, a man approached Larry and said, "I only have three letters to describe this service and altar call…W-O-W! Isn't God great!" Community of Hope is a new church and it is growing quickly under the leadership of this great young couple.

Rhonda Minner attended one of the morning services and shared this with us:

"How fun it was to see you again. I last saw you in Ankeny, IA, when I was eight years old. Your ministry is greater today than when I first saw you. May God continue to use you to bring people to Christ."

As I said in the beginning of this update, John 12:32 states, "If I, I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto me" And…He did!

NOTE: He says, "If I"…not a preacher, evangelist, singing group, or church be lifted up…but rather I (Christ)…He will do the drawing!

Have a great week!

HOUSEHOLD HINT

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

Larry and I rejoice at the wonderful services we have had these past couple of weeks. On June 21st we ministered in Grand Forks, ND, at Valley Christian Center with Pastor Chris Dawes. On Sunday morning while preparing for the service, Pastor Chris said "I remember you from waaaay back." I chuckled, "Hey…be easy on us old people." It is always entertaining to hear comments from pastors and partners who often say, "I remember you when I was just a kid"…and now they are in their 30's and 40's.

I can hardly believe that July 4th is almost here! These weeks are speeding by too quickly. I am sure many of you have plans to be with your family and friends. As for us, we haven't made any decisions yet. I like the line that my 93 year old mother says, "I never make long-term decisions - or buy green bananas because I never know if I will live long enough to see them ripen."

With life as busy as it is, it is good that we have a legal holiday stamped on the calendar to encourage us to pull back from the hectic schedules, take a big deep breath and relax.

We had a precious service and altar call. Pastor Chris has a beautiful family with precious little ones. He is doing a wonderful job of pastoring. Pastor Chris was a youth pastor before being voted in as a senior pastor. We hadn't been to Grand Forks since they had the big flood years ago so it sure was good to be back.

Grand Forks, ND altar call

Pastor Dawes shared this with us:

"On behalf of the people of Valley Christian Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota, I wanted to say a great big 'thank you'.  Your ministry among us was wonderful!  Anyone with a frown on their face attending our service that Sunday, quickly began to smile and enjoy themselves.  You are such 'up' folks, and our people responded to you beautifully.

Of course, the most important and fulfilling thing for me as a Pastor, was observing the people coming forward to make commitments to Christ.  I want you to know how grateful we are that you were able to be with us an that you let the gifts of God's Spirit flow through you.  Thanks, again, and may God continue to bless you and bless others through you."

Last Sunday, June 28th, we ministered at First Assembly of God in Aberdeen, SD. It was such a privilege to be back with Pastor Gary and Joanie Wileman. They are another one of those ministry couples who have known us since they were children, and Larry and I were newlyweds on the road. Yes…that is a few months back. HA! It has been a joy to watch Pastor Gary and Joanie grow and develop through the years. Aberdeen First A/G loves the Wileman family. They truly are a family of love, integrity and humor. We have also watched their two sons and daughter grow up in the parsonage since they were toddlers…now they are young men and women.

Aberdeen, SD altar call

Coming back to Aberdeen First Assembly of God was like coming home as we know so many people that we have met through the years. Several from the congregation have joined us on our Fun and Fellowship tours we host each year. As we sang and preached, God was speaking to hearts and when the altar call was given, several responded to make a fresh dedication of their lives to Christ.

Brad Kingswriter and family

Also, we'd like to give a special thanks to Pastor Brad Kingsriter for doing a great job heading up the counseling. "It is always a joy to have Larry and Gloria minister in our church.  The people are very receptive to their ministry.  We had 7 people come forward to rededicate their lives to Christ - praise the Lord!"

After the Sunday morning service, Marlin Kirschenmann of Aberdeen approached me with a huge grin on his face. "Gloria, I am so happy to see you and Larry again. I am so grateful to God for your ministry. At age 6, our daughter, Kelli, made a commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ at your morning service. Now, 24 years later, her commitment to her Savior remains strong and vibrant. For that, you two will always be special to me."

Charles & Mary Lu Fulker from Bass, SD also shared with us, "We are so happy you came. We loved the service and God blessed us so much spiritually."

To complete the day, Pastor and Joanie invited us to their home for a delicious pot roast dinner with all the trimmings. Since it was Larry's 66th birthday, he was totally and completely overjoyed to have of his all time favorite meals.

We are so happy to have our granddaughter, Myanna, back with us on the road for a few weeks. She is such a joy and help to us in our services. Here she is with Elizabeth Rajmohan.

With the 4th of July this weekend, how blessed we STILL are to have as much freedom in our country as we do. Lord, help us not to take it for granted. If ever we need to stand to fight for righteousness, it is today.

Blessings on you…have a wonderful weekend. We will talk in a couple of weeks!

Let me catch my breath…we've just returned home from a 1200 mile, whirlwind round trip from Sisseton, SD to Milwaukee, WI. We were so privileged to be able to attend the 30th anniversary celebration of my brother, Pastor Jerry Brooks, and his wife Sherry's pastoring at Oak Creek Assembly of God in Oak Creek, WI. Thirty years ago they started with 13 people and he has been blessed to see it grow to over 2000 in attendance. In today's day and age, there aren't a great number of pastors who've had the call or privilege to sharpen a congregation for 30 years.

Sherry Brooks with her daughters, Stephanie and Stacey

Jerry and Sherry are also blessed to have their son, Jon (and fiance Joan), and their two daughters, Stephanie and Stacey (and husband Marc), working with them in this great church. Making it quite the family affair, Lowell and Connie Lundstrom were also part of the celebration.

Jerry is one of my 10 brothers and we are very

proud of him… and may I add here: I love all my brothers and I'm proud of all of them. Each one has a unique personality of their own and are so special to me.

With Father's Day coming up, I can't even imagine the responsibility my father must have felt raising ten sons and one daughter. I often felt like an onion in a flower patch - no sisters to cling to or hang out with. But, I really didn't have much time to dwell in self pity. I think my dad created the saying, "When I work…everyone works!" Our house sat on 12 lots and nearly half of that was a garden which he raised all his own vegetables, etc. He kept us occupied pulling Brook's Familyweeds, doing away with potato bugs, pickin beans and other veggies, mowing the grass, housework, laundry, cooking and baking, babysitting, canning, ironing…just to name a few of the odd jobs! With all that being said, we really didn't have time to think on self. As soon as my brothers were old enough to do much of the above, at about age of 8 or 10, they were promoted to another part of the family work force. My father took them down to his business, Brook's Motors where they started sweeping floors, polishing cars, and chasing parts. Eventually they became part's men, automechanics, car salesmen, and auto painters/detailers. Six of my brothers stayed with the car dealership, two went into ministry, one became a school teacher in MN, and another an engineer for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA. No doubt about it, Mom and Dad taught us how to work and demanded that we work hard, do our best, be men and women of integrity, and a light and testimony in a dark world. Dad engrained in us that no matter what we were told to do-do it-if you don't know how to do it-do it-if you didn't want to do it-do it-if you didn't like the job-do it. There were no excuses or no "outs"; it was going to be done! Even though we fussed and whined about a lot of the work he made us do, it prepared us for the long and intense life we were about to encounter.

I'm mostly thankful for the day, in 1952, that he took all of us to a little church that preached the full gospel. That day eight of us gave our hearts to Jesus and that was the beginning of a new destiny for each one of us. What joy and peace he brought to us in our family and home. God has been so good!

This Father's Day…take time to appreciate your Father if you still have him. Life is uncertain and short, and we never know when they will take that last breath. Tell him you love him, he needs to hear it. Have a great Father's Day!

Gloria

HOUSEHOLD HINT

Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill it with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry the cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out!

We arrived home May 28th. The next day, LaDawn and our two grandchildren scurried home for the long Memorial Day weekend. Even though we came home road weary and seemingly braindead, it was so refreshing and fun to have them come as a welcome committee.

June 3, 2009

Greetings from home…Sisseton, South Dakota! After being gone for five months and our last visual memory being of blowing snow, great snowdrifts and cold, it was a delight as the old song says, " to see the green, green grass of home." Sitting here by the window, I can see the robins and blackbirds fighting over ground territory to find worms for their young. Beneath our deck is a nest with four little robin beaks reaching skyward anxiously awaiting for luscious worms from their mother. I love to watch the motherly instinct how she protects and provides for her young. That's was real mothers do!

We arrived home May 28th. The next day, LaDawn and our two grandchildren scurried home for the long Memorial Day weekend. Even though we came home road weary and seemingly braindead, it was so refreshing and fun to have them come as a welcome committee.

A few weeks ago, LaDawn called us and chided, "Mom and Dad, you always head south at the sign of the first snowflake, and don't come back in the spring until you see the last snowflake." We laughed, "We are smart, aren't we!"

Memorial Day, Larry and I, along with LaDawn and the kids drove up to the State park and lake located about 25 miles from home. We played Frisbee, flew a kite (there is always wind in the prairielands), hiked, grilled some brats and had a picnic. They always enjoy getting out of "Cementville" and getting into what they call the "woods and prairieland".

The Lundstrom Boys

We also were able to spend some time with Larry's two brothers, Lowell, Leon and Connie and LJ. It is always a joy to be with family.

Last Sunday, we held a service with Pastor Todd and Pam Gafkjen at Harvest Church in Wahpeton, ND. It was a great service and the altar was lined with many making decisions for Christ. Several teenagers walked Rev. Todd & Pam Gafkjenup to us after church and said, "We really enjoyed your ministry. You touched our hearts." A few minutes later, a lady and her husband, (about my age…young! HA!) approached me with tears of joy, "I have always been in church and thought I was okay because I was a good religious person, but this morning, I felt God tugging on my heart to rededicate my life because I had more of religion than a relationship." She continued, "After I prayed, I felt something I have not felt before…an assurance of my salvation. Now when I die, I know I will go to heaven. " She bubbled, "oh yes, my daughter gave her life to Christ for the first time also!"

Testimonies like this encourage us to keep going! We have so appreciated Pastor Todd and Pam's ministry at Harvest Church. They have ministered there eight years and have just resigned to move on for their next assignment as to what God has in the future. Our prayers are with them!

Altar call at Wahpeton, ND

Pastor Todd shared, "It is with great joy that I can recommend the ministry of Larry and Gloria Lundstrom.  They are proven and faithful messengers of the gospel of Jesus.  Their ministry encompasses the entire family as well as anyone new to the teaching of Christ.  They are real people, living in a real world, preaching a real hope.  The anointing of the office of an evangelist is evident in word and in deed.  Their love and passion for souls to come to saving faith is infectious.  Your community and your church will be blessed by their ministry."

Jack & Gloria

It was also a wonderful treat to see my brother, Jack, from Fergus Falls at the rally in Wahpeton.

When we arrived home a few days ago, we had some huge barren spots on our lawn. It was a bit discouraging to see that only weeds were growing. I tried to encourage Larry, "Honey, look at these cracks in the ground…it's screaming for water. I believe that if we can really water it well, if there is dormant grass or seeds, it will spring forth." For the last five days, we have been very intent on watering and guess what, there is grass peeking through. Excitedly I've said, "Honey, it just needed water." It reminds me of the verse in Psalms 143:6, "I stretch forth my hand unto Thee, my soul thirsteth after Thee as a thirsty land." Psalm 63:1-2 says, "My flesh longeth for Thee on a dry thirsty land where no water is; to see Thy power and glory."

There are times in my life I feel so thirsty for God just as that ground thirsts for water in order to grow. It is those times that God bids us to "Be still and know that I am God." Over and over in the Word He says that those that seek Him shall find Him.

At this very moment, to be honest I am weary in body, but I am also very hungry for more time with God that I might feel more of His presence in my life…how about you?

Have a great day, week and month! Thanks for keeping up with us on the road!

Gloria

Hooray - spring has finally sprung! In fact, I think summer came overnight. We've been weaving our way back to Sisseton, SD after being on a 5 month tour which began January 6th. Yes…we are tired, but are praising God for all the souls that came to Christ.

We were especially thrilled to have LaDawn, Dante and Myanna drive over to be with us this Mother's Day. We hadn't seen them since January. My how our grandchildren have grown! I think both Dante and Myanna grew 2 inches since January. To top of this wonderful Mother's Day, Debbie treated us to her delicious homemade, specialty apple and sour cream raisin pie - wow was that a treat!

Larry, LaDawn and Dante

Last week Larry and I made our pilgrimage to Rochester, MN for our yearly check-ups. We needed to make sure that our engines are running okay! After 43 ½ years on the road for me and over 48 for Larry, we need maintenance checkups - HA! Our bodies are becoming like old cars…patch, patch, patch. While we were there we were reminded to be thankful for our health as we saw literally hundreds of patients that were wheelchair bound, on oxygen tanks, and many weary by cancer and heart problems. We feel very blessed to still be On the Road. God is good!

Last Sunday, May 17th, was another big milestone in my life - I turned 65. It was also our daughter LaDawn's birthday; it's so great to be able to celebrate our birthdays together. Our son Donovan called to wish me a Happy Birthday and nonchalantly asked how old I was. I quipped, "It's the big one, the Medicare birthday - I'm 65!" There was a short pause of silence and a slight groan as he said, "Noooo, you're not 65." I reaffirmed him, "Oh yes." I'm reminded of the woman who had never met the love of her life, and her biological clock was ticking away. Someone stopped and asked her how old she was, factually, she responded, "I'm too young for Medicare…and too old for men-to-care." Cute huh!

On May 17th we were also privileged to be back in Eau Claire, WI to minister at Evangel Temple with Associate Paul Smith. Paul and his wife have a vision and the gusto to reach the unchurched that are without Christ. It was a great service.

Larry & Pastor Paul Smith"Larry and Gloria have such a warm and genuine spirit about them. We want to express our appreciation to the Lundstrom's ministry for the time they spent with us. During that time it was evident in all they said and did that their passion for ministry is seeing the lost encounter Jesus by His Spirit."

This weekend America celebrates Memorial Day- a day to remember all of our loved ones who have gone on before us - and our military men and women who so valiantly served our country and gave their lives for our freedom. How we appreciate all of them!

For nearly 60 years I've gone with my mother, every Memorial Day, to put flowers by the graves of our loved ones. As the years go by we are visiting more graves, as so many friends and family have passed away. Last year as I stood by the gravesite of my father, brother, sister, sister-in-law, grandparents, and other Lundstroms who have passed, I realized again how short life is. The older we get, the shorter the dash seems between the birthdate and the death date. One poem worth reading is called "The Dash" by Linda Ellis: http://www.lindaellis.net/Read_The_Dash.htm What really matters is not what "we've spent" in life, or for what, but "how we spent" our lives - for who and on those who are lost and hurting without Christ. Larry and I continue to go…preach…and encourage, because we know for many people who come to our services, we may never see them again. Their funeral flowers could be in bloom and in town.

This Memorial Day as you gather with loved ones, remember and appreciate the gift of time and life that God has given you. Take the time to share Christ with those you love.

RECIPE

Peaches and Cream Salad

2 (3 oz.) pkgs. Peach Jello

1 (15 oz.) can sliced peaches, drained and cut up, if desired

1 pint half and half

Drain peaches. Add enough water to juice to make 1 ½ cups. Bring this to a boil. Dissolve Jello in water/juice mixture. Add peaches to lukewarm Jello, then add the half and half and stir to mix. We've been crisscrossing from Pennsylvania to Michigan to Indiana and back to Michigan these last few weeks. Last Sunday we were in Jonesville, MI, at the Hillsdale Assembly of God pastored by Dennis and Joyce Haarer. We have had the pleasure of ministering in their church before, and they, too, are a sweet and tender couple.

May flowers

Last Friday was May 1st, May Day. As a child growing up it tradition in our house for my mom and I to make small May Day baskets (these actually consisted of candies tied up in a napkin decorated with a colorful ribbon). I would then go into the surrounding neighborhood and give them to some of my good friends. Of course the real custom for May baskets was you are supposed to take the May basket to the door of someone you liked, knock on the door, they would open it, you would hand them the basket…and the best part… they were supposed to chase you and go on to give you a hug or kiss. Well, that was the way it was supposed to go! To be real honest, even as a child I found few I really wanted to chase me. HA! With that in mind, I still have a lot of "kid" in me as I still like to make a May basket for Larry.

A couple of years ago, I secretly made him a May basket, proceeded to sneak out of the motorhome, knocked on the outside door and Larry answered. I proudly handed him the basket and shouted as I began to ran away, "Come and catch me!" Off we went running at full speed through a Super Walmart parking lot. Out of breath Larry finally cornered me as I entered the outdoor garden center. People looked at us with curiosity probably thinking I had shoplifted something and a manager was chasing me. Then Larry grabbed me, pulled me into his arms, and kissed me. We were giggling hysterically and everyone looking on chuckled at, I am sure, a comical sight.

Well, this year on May Day, it was pouring buckets of rain. I chose not to run outside therefore while Larry was busy working on the computer, I dropped his May basket of jelly beans and candies on the keyboard and chanted, "Come and catch me!" What I didn't take into consideration was that I couldn't run very far in the motorhome. I ran ten feet and my big 6'3 husband grabbed me as I tried to escape into the bathroom and laughed, "Gotcha!", as he kissed me. This girl was out of breath running ten feet. God knew I couldn't do the marathon across the Walmart parking lot this time. HA! Yes, we do crazy things to keep the sizzle in our marriage even after 43 years. It was fun!

Hillsdale, MI altar call

We've been crisscrossing from Pennsylvania to Michigan to Indiana and back to Michigan these last few weeks. Last Sunday we were in Jonesville, MI, at the Hillsdale Assembly of God pastored by Dennis and Joyce Haarer. We have had the pleasure of ministering in their church before, and they, too, are a sweet and tender couple.

We were greeted by an enthusiastic congregation. I met with 18 counselors for pre-counseling training. They came with expectation that God was going to do something great in the service and that many people would come to Christ. Their expectations were met! After we sang, ministered and the altar call was given, 23 people stepped forward to make decisions for Christ. What a thrill to see what God did! I can't explain the depth of emotion and elation of those who made first time decisions. They were weeping with tears of joy!

Rev. Dennis & Joyce Haarer

"We have had Larry and Gloria minister here at Hillsdale Assembly of God before. Larry and Gloria's ministry is such a good fit and our people are always excited to have them come. We had an incredible service and were overjoyed to see 23 people make decisions for Christ on Sunday morning and our counselors are excited to follow up with them. I want you to know that Larry and Gloria are always welcome to minister whenever they are in the area."

After the service, a precious lady shared with us, "I've gone to church for years, but this morning when I went up to the altar to pray, something happened. Something happened inside of me. I feel different, forgiven and free for the first time."

A touching moment in the service was when we asked Ray and Carol Curran to give a testimony of what happened in their lives when we ministered there in 2004. Ray shared the following,Carol Curren, Donna Miller, and Ray Curren

"We were religious people doing the religious thing but never had a relationship with Christ. We were never happy. Then one day, our friends, Bill and Donna Miller, invited us to come to church to hear Larry and Gloria Lundstrom. They said we would enjoy the singing and the preaching. We agreed to accompany our friends. We listened to their music and their time of ministry and loved it. Then, Larry preached about a relationship with Christ…not religion. When he gave the altar call, the Holy Spirit moved on our hearts and we stepped forward to the altar and prayed the sinner's prayer. Wow…what a change! We now have a personal relationship with Christ. Our lives have never been the same. Since we came to Christ, several of our children and their families have gotten saved. We are so thankful our friends, the Millers, invited us to church or this would have never happened."

This time when we ministered at Hillsdale Assembly of God, Ray and Carol invited a couple of their friends and they were saved. It is testimonies like these that give us the strength and perseverance to keep pushing on the road. The bible says in John 12:32 "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." If we are faithful to go and to lift Him up, the Holy Spirit does the rest…He draws them unto Himself.

We were also honored to have Michigan State Representative of the 57th District, Ken Kurtz, attend our morning service. He told me, "I really enjoyed your music and ministry. There are so many people who are hurting, discouraged and without hope. You definitely gave them hope and encouragement to go on. Thanks!"

Gloria, Joyce, Lana & Sheri

An additional highlight of the service was seeing our friends, Joyce Young, Lana Ranahan and Sheri Belson once again. Lana (second from the right) traveled with our ministry as a soloist for over a year. She was our songbird and touched many, many lives.

Have a great week and I wish a very special Mother's Day to all of you mothers who give your heart and soul to fulfill this extraordinary calling on your life.

CHUCKLE

Why did God make mothers?

1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.

2. Mostly to clean the house.

3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

----

How did God make mothers?

1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.

2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.

3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

----

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?

1. We're related.

2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

----

What kind of little girl was your mom?

1. My mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.

2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.

3. They say she used to be nice.

----

Who's the boss at your house?

1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.

2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.

3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

----

What's the difference between moms and dads?

1. Moms work at work and work at home, & dads just go to work at work.

2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.

3. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.

4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

----

What does your Mom do in her spare time?

1. Mothers don't do spare time.

2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

----

If you could change one thing about your Mom, what would it be?

1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.

2. I'd make my Mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.

3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on her back of her head.

Change accent pillows each season for a cheaper way to be trendy without redoing a whole room.

Slipcovers are the easiest way to make furniture look new. Consider reversible ones - a wintry color on one side and a summery white linen on the other. If you're looking for someone to sew a slipcover, check the bulletin boards in fabric stores or ask the clerks.

I last wrote to you from Grantsville, Maryland, where we had a service with Pastor John and Leona Munley. Talk about an energy-packed ministry couple with an earth-shaking testimony! We had a wonderful service and a sweet altar call. I refer to it as "sweet" because when God moves people to repentance, there is a sweet aroma of God's presence that is so special.

April 22, 2009

April showers…well, I can tell you this…we have had showers, showers and more showers here in Pennsylvania. The spring flowers are making their debut, but they are begging for sunshine. As a matter of fact, so am I. Here it is almost May and it was down to 38 degrees a couple of nights ago. Is this what they call global warming (chuckle)? They are predicting the temperatures will reach 70-80 degrees this weekend; maybe we will go from winter to summer in three days.

"On Wednesday evening, April 8th, Maranatha Assembly of God, of Grantsville, MD, had the privilege of hosting Larry and Gloria Lundstrom. The Lundstrom's were not new to Maranatha as they had ministered here many years previous. Much to this pastor's surprise, people from about eight surrounding churches and varying denominations filed in prior to the service for about 30 minutes and the sanctuary began to fill. Old friends, as they consider themselves, sat and were waiting with great expectation to hear the Lundstrom's music and to witness the power of God. By the time the fellowship, the Altar call at Maranatha A/Gworship and the Word was complete, the anointing fell and the altar began to fill with several new converts and many who rededicated their lives. What a great night in the presence of the Lord! Larry and Gloria will always be received with great expectation at Maranatha Assembly of God!"

* Special thanks to the congregation at Maranatha Assembly of God for allowing us to park behind their church which overlooks the breathtaking Alleghany Mountains of Maryland. We deeply appreciate them allowing us to base our office in this location as we drove out from there for our remaining rallies in the area.

Rev. Thomas & Bev TwiggOn Easter Sunday, we ministered at Cornerstone Assembly of God in Boynton, Pennsylvania, pastored by Rev. and Mrs. Thomas Twigg. They are another wonderful ministry couple with a passion for the Lost, plus a sense of humor like unto to my husband, Larry. Scary! HA! While eating Easter dinner at the Alpine Restaurant, I looked at the two of them and said, "You two are too much alike; I don't know if it is good to have you both together for any length of time." Seriously, it was great and they very much enjoyed exchanging jokes. Now, Larry has some new ones! HA!

"We had a great Easter service with Larry and Gloria Lundstrom. We truly enjoyed their ministry and there is no doubt that they were a blessing to our congregation. Thanks for coming to Boynton!"

From Boynton, PA, we drove to Romney, WV, on April 15th for a Wednesday evening service. We were delighted to have two churches come together to host a joint service. There was also a precious altar call at this service, but unfortunately I left the memory card out of the camera so we were unable to take any pictures and share them with you.Gloria & Hilda Maust

While we were in the Grantsville, MD, area, we had the opportunity to visit with several friends that we have known since the 70's. Once of those was Hilda Maust who just lost here husband, Ivan, a few months ago. He pastored Maple Glen Mennonite Church for several years and then began to do some hospice work. Hilda and Ivan were instrumental, along with our friends, Raymond and Martha Yoder, to bring us back into the Grantsville area for services this time. If you have been staying Ray & Martha Yodercurrent with the "On the Road" updates and have seen the pictures of the many various altar calls, you know that God blessed their efforts. Martha Yoder sent us down the road with homemade bread, strawberry jam, cinnamon rolls and three homemade soups. What a special treat!

On Thursday, April 16th, we packed up the motorhome and drove to central Pennsylvania, specifically the Clarion area. Again, we have been blessed to have friends like Walt and Joan Clutter who have literally made an RV space with water, electricity hook-ups located behind their house that we are able to use. It is located adjacent to a beautiful pond, stunning flowers, and swimming geese…aha…peace, quiet and beauty…just what the doctor ordered. I feel like we are staying in a scenic park. We will be staying here for about another week…how blessed we are!Rev. Ron & Colleen Swanson

Last Sunday morning, we ministered at Alpha Assembly of God in Clarion, PA, with Pastor and Mrs. Ronald Swanson. What a tender and sweet-spirited couple. During our visit there, Pastor Swanson shared these comments regarding our ministry:

"There were several things I really appreciated about your ministry. First, the interaction between the two of you while you ministered revealed a very visible love for one another. Secondly, your authenticity; because you were real, people felt like they knew you. Lastly, I felt it was so important that you shared your real-life experiences as it gave hope to our people."

Altar call at Alpha A/G in Clarion, PA

The altar call, once again, in Clarion, was wonderful. Seeing people drawn to Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit never grows old and even more precious with each decision made for Christ.

Let me take a moment to say that we have been so blessed on this entire four month tour to have been able to connect and minister with all of these extraordinary pastors and wives. Each couple is unique and is being greatly used of God in their churches.

Sitting here at my work table in the motorhome, I can look out the window and see the pond. The rain is softly falling. I can see spring flowers bursting forth. The grass is so green and the flowers are proudly displaying their brilliant colors of yellows, purples, blues and whites. As I observe this tranquil scene, I am reminded of Lamentations 3 where it states, "His mercies are new every morning. Great is Thy faithfulness." As sure as spring follows a long winter season, God is always faithful in His mercies and blessings although we may go through long, cold seasons of discouragement, pain or loss. In the midst of a gray day, He allows the Son to break through…just as it literally did a few minutes ago to brighten my day. Great is thy faithfulness! I pray that whatever is taking place in your life at this time, you will sense His love and faithfulness!

The Six Year old girl and the Evolution teacher

One day a 6 year old girl was sitting in the classroom. The teacher was going to explain evolution to the children.

The teacher asked a little boy:

Teacher: Tommy do you see the tree outside?

Tommy: Yes.

Teacher: Tommy, do you see the grass outside?

Tommy: Yes.

Teacher: Go out side and look up and see if you can see the sky.

Tommy: OK. (He returned a few minutes later) Yes, I saw the sky.

Teacher: Did you see God?

Tommy: No.

Teacher: That's my point. We can't see God because he isn't there.

The little girl spoke up and wanted to ask the boy some questions. Teacher agreed and she asked the boy:

Little Girl: Tommy, do you see the tree outside?

Tommy: Yes.

Little girl: Tommy do you see the grass outside?

Tommy: Yessssss (getting tired of the questions by this time)

Little girl: Did you see the sky?

Tommy: Yessssss

Little Girl: Tommy, do you see the teacher?

Tommy: Yes

Little Girl: Do you see her brain?

Tommy: No

Little Girl: Does that mean she doesn't have one?
