Greetings from the beautiful state of Pennsylvania! It is truly breathtaking with its rolling hills peppered with corn fields, pastures of cattle and sheep, lazy rivers and creeks and billions of leaves that proudly display their fall colors. As I write...huge reddish gold maple leaves are falling like snowflakes...ugh, let's not mention that word! The Weather Channel says here in Clarion, PA, which is just a skip and hop from Pittsburgh, may get its first flurries tomorrow. With that in mind, Larry is urgently working along with a couple of partner friends getting some maintenance done on the motor home. We need that done before we head out tomorrow to Salisbury, PA, which is not far from Cumberland, Maryland.

Since the last "On the Road" report we've covered a mile or two - Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan and on into Pennsylvania.

Rev. Dennis & Joyce HaarerOn October 10th, we were back in Hillsdale, MI with our pastor friends Dennis and Joyce Haarer. We've been with them several times through the years. Their sweet loving spirits along with their sweet congregation always make us feel like we're coming home. When Pastor Dennis introduced us he said, "If I were to describe Larry and Gloria's ministry...I would say it is an 'altar call on wheels' with singing, preaching and a few of Larry's crazy jokes." I thought, "Wow! We've never been described like that before." Then the pastor added, "People always come to Christ in their services...and I know it will happen again this morning."

Yes - God honored his faith, and because of all the prayers of the sowers...we come in to reap (evangelists) and harvest (altar call) the souls that are seeking a relationship with Christ. Isn't that great? Together...pastors, prayers, and presentation - brings precious people to Christ.

"We had a great time together, God really used Larry and Gloria the altars were full and God truly blessed. The Lundstrom's are always welcome at Hillsdale Assembly."

Larry & Rick Jordan

Hmmm....they look like brothers with their matching sport coats. This is pastor Rick Jordan who works with evangelism standing with Evangelist Larry. Rick commented, "It seems the Lundstrom's always show up at the right time to encourage us and motivate and equip us to be soul winners and reach out beyond the four walls of the church into the community."

Gloria with Joan Clutter "in the mule"

From Hillsdale, MI we journeyed on to Clarion, PA where we nestled our motor home on the Walt Clutter farm down in the holler next to a beautiful pond. The Clutter family has been so gracious to allow us to be family with them on the farm. It has been the perfect place where Larry could have time to do maintenance on the motor home. Beings we weren't traveling every day - I could keep my office out and have a great few days of non-interrupted time with which I could catch up on mail and office work. About 4 o'clock last Walt and BuddyThursday afternoon, Walt Clutter, our host, pounded on the motor home door and commanded, "Get out of that office - it's the last nice, warm day of the season - we're taking you and Larry on a ride through the back hills, up on the mountain on a mule!" I thought, "Dear God... the last thing I want to do is ride a mule." Then Walt grinned, "That's my four-wheeler - common let's go!" They threw a bale of hay on the back where Joan and I rode. Larry, the dog Buddy and Walt climbed in the front.

For the next two hours...it was like a bit of heaven just to get out and ride in the open air in 70 degree temps, up the mountain, through the corn fields, enjoying God's beautiful fall foliage, through the pastures and back to the farm. This Clutter family has such pure hearts. Love it!

Our special 45th anniversary celebration

Friday evening, their daughter Kathy and husband Bill invited us over for supper. They surprised us with an anniversary cake, a beautiful floral arrangement and a delicious home-cooked meal. Wow...that was special! We usually spend our anniversary traveling to a destination somewhere. It was a great 45th memory maker.

Paul & Esther Murray

Another treat for us was meeting up with evangelist friends Paul & Esther Murray while we were coming through Indiana.  They have been active in ministry for many, many years and are a blessing!

Last Sunday, Oct 17th we ministered with Pastor Ron at Alpha A/G in Clarion, PA. We had a precious service and altar call where many responded and came forward to encourage others who were hurting or coming to Christ. There were 3 first time decisions and several re-affirmations.

Mr. & Mrs. Ron Swanson

"I just so enjoyed Larry and Gloria's authentic approach, they were transparent when they talked about marriage and family, I know they encouraged many of our church family and couples. I really appreciated Larry's short, to the point, illustrated message of the gospel. It was clear and people responded."

Larry and I never tire of seeing what God does if we are willing to "go". We never tire of people coming to

Christ! That's what life is all about.

CHUCKLE/REFLECTION

God created the mule, and told him, "You will be a Mule, working constantly from dusk to dawn, carrying heavy loads on your back. You will eat grass and you will lack intelligence. You will live for 50 years."

The mule answered, "To live like this for 50 years is too much. Please, give me no more than 30." And it was so.

Then God created the dog, and told him, "You are a Dog. You will hold vigilance over the dwellings of Man, to whom you will be his greatest companion. You will eat his table scraps and live for 25 years."

And the dog responded, " Lord, to live 25 years as a dog is too much. Please, no more than 10 years." And it was so.

God then created the monkey, and told him, "You are a Monkey. You will swing from tree to tree, acting like an idiot. You will be funny, and you shall live for 20 years."

And the monkey responded, "Lord, to live 20 years as the clown of the world is too much. Please, Lord, no more than 10 years." And it was so.

Finally, God created Man and told him, "You are Man, the only rational being that walks the earth. You will use your intelligence to havemastery over the creatures of the world. You will dominate the earth and live for 20 years."

And the man responded, "Lord, to be a Man for only 20 years is too little. Please, Lord, give me the 20 years the mule
refused, the 15 years the dog refused, and the 10 years the monkey rejected."

And it was so. And so God made Man to live 20 years as a man, then marry and live 20 years like a mule working and carrying heavy loads on his back. Then, he is to have children and live 15 years as a dog, guarding his house and eating the leftovers after they empty the pantry. Then, in his old age, to live the 10 years as a monkey, acting like a fool to amuse his grandchildren.

And it was so.

PIC OF THE WEEK

Indiana grocery store parking lot... looks quite different from your average shopping mall!

RECIPE

Hamburger & Cabbage Casserole

2 lbs. hamburger, browned with onion (to taste)

1 large or 2 small cabbages, steamed (chopped up)

2 cups cooked rice

¼ to 1/3 cup brown sugar

3 tsp. salt

½ cup water

Mix browned hamburger with steamed cabbage, rice, sugar and salt. Put into greased shallow pan and sprinkle water over it. Bake for 1 ½ hours at 300 degrees, or microwave 20 minutes.

Recycle those old nut shells, including pistachios, walnuts, peanuts and other nuts. Once you're done eating the delicious nuts, break them up and use to line plant pots or use as mulch for your garden.

It's a beautiful fall day...there's a nip in the air which has spurred on the trees to turn the leaves bright and burning colors. As I write this in our motor home in Indiana, I can see a little black squirrel hustling back and forth carrying what appears to be a walnut in its mouth. The way it's racing around there's no doubt it has a mission in mind...it knows another season is coming quickly, and it's preparing for it. Larry and I feel the same way when it comes to our ministry. The "signs" of Christ's coming are all around us and we are doing all that we can do to reach as many as we can with a simple salvation message. The bible says in John 9:4, "As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work."

The "signs" of Christ's coming are all around us and we are doing all that we can do to reach as many as we can with a simple salvation message. The bible says in John 9:4, "As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work." Just as the nip in the air serves as a reminder of what's to come, there's a realization that our time to reach the lost is running shorter.

Over the last couple weeks, the rallies have been precious. We started out the fall tour in Eagle Bend, MN. What a way to begin a two month tour with the altar filled with those hungry for God. Among them was a family with several grown children who made first time decisions for Christ. It was a pleasure to meet interim pastor David and Twylah Squire. What a neat couple. They are doing a great ministry within churches. Rev. Dave & Twylah Squire

"Thank you so much for coming to Eagle Bend Assembly of God. I think everyone enjoyed your down-to-earth music and message of living for Jesus. (I think even a few people enjoyed Larry's corny humor). The really exciting part of the rally came at the conclusion of the service. Larry preached a simple gospel message on God's offer of salvation through Jesus Christ. Frankly, I was anticipating a maximum response of six or eight people, with half being children. Imagine my surprise and absolute delight when four people made first time decisions for Christ and between 12 and 16 people responded to the invitation to rededicate their lives to Jesus. Larry and Gloria, your evangelistic message is much needed in our churches and communities. Thank you for being faithful to the call of God."

From Eagle Bend we headed off to Waupaca, WI by way of Minneapolis where we were able to spend an evening with our daughter, LaDawn and grandkids, Dante and Myanna. It's always hard to leave on tour and leave family.

Last Sunday we were thrilled to be back in Waupaca, WI ministering with our friends Pastor Bob and Linda Bohn. We've known them since...well...not the beginning of time...but it seems like it - HA! We've known them since we were young, and they were younger! They have pastored that Assembly of God church in Waupaca for 19 years. They are so loved and give love so freely...I can see why they've been there that long. It truly is a family church. Thanks Pastor Bob and Linda for your faithfulness and making us feel so welcome while we were there!

Rev. Bob & Linda Bohn"Your ministry enriched our lives individually and corporately as the Body of Christ. Thank you for your quality of presentation. We could see the activity of Christ and the unfolding work of the Holy Spirit in the service, especially in the times of encouragement to the Lost and hurting. We are most grateful for those who made first time commitments or recommitments at the altar call. Again, thank you for challenging our people with the heart of God...reaching out to the Lost and prodigals."

"What a blessing to have Larry and Gloria Lundstrum at our sunday morning service at First Assembly of God in Waupaca WI. We instantly entered into a time of refreshing through their ministry of music. It was wonderful to see the response when the altar call was given. It was a time enjoyed by all ages, God moved and we are greatful for their ministry!"

Being back in Waupaca was almost like attending a class or family reunion. Several pastors, former pastor, friends and partners attended the morning service.

"Having a Sunday free from ministry elsewhere, we were in our home church, First Assembly of God, Waupaca, WI where we were privileged to hear our friends, Larry and Gloria Lundstrom. When pastoring in Superior, WI we enjoyed great services with the Lundstrom team and saw many saved and brought into the church. This past Sunday was no exception as several people responded to the invitation to surrender to Christ for the first time and rededication. God bless you, Larry and Gloria."

Rev. Arden & Glenna Adamson

"It was good to see you "in person" at Waupaca, WI, rather than in photos. I have followed you since I was a teenager and now, as a family, we are privileged to have supported your ministry for ten years. We know it is not an easy life that you have chosen, traveling continuously pouring your heart and souls into the lives of strangers. However, the rewards are many. Thanks, again, for what you do!"

We also visited with Leo and Dorothy Marks who were with their friends, Ken and Pam Verhagen, who came to Christ in a Lundstrom crusade in 1970 in Appleton, WI.

Tuesday morning, we left Waupaca and drove to Milwaukee and were able to stop and see my brother, pastor Jerry Brooks and his family as they were celebrating their son's birthday. Next, we had the challenge of driving through Chicago late at night, and today we are stopped for a bit in Indiana.

I just want you to know that we appreciate each and every one of you who follow us On the Road and through Facebook. You truly are our friends and family. Please remember to pray for us on this tour for safety, good health and continued decisions for Christ.

We just arrived back in Sisseton, SD from an exciting Fun and Fellowship tour to Louisville, Kentucky where we attended the National Quartet Convention. We hosted and brought along 40 friends from the midwest and one from Mesa, AZ.

En route there, we stopped in Arcola, Illinois and visited Rockome Gardens and had the unique and wonderful experience of having a dinner in an Amish home. Of course, it was all home cooking! Southern fried chicken, baked steak, homemade noodles and chicken, real mashed potatoes, fresh corn, real chicken gravy (yummy, yummy) salads, homemade bread, and pies right out of the oven... have I got your taste buds going yet? It was absolutely delicious. And of course, as only Larry could, he got our Amish hosts, Willis and Elizabeth, laughing so hard and wanting to hear more of his jokes - oh boy. After our delicious meal we went out and formed a semi-circle outside their home, a very humble home, and we sang Amazing Grace and then we concluded by singing a German chorus, "God is Love" in German. Willis and Elizabeth lit up with smiles and eyes filled with tears of joy as they couldn't' believe we could have so much fun and actually sing in German (we did butcher it a bit - ha!).

We motored on to Louisville, KY, and scooted through afternoon rush hour traffic to the Kentucky Expo Convention Center. In the last 10 minutes before arriving there, Larry and I, and one of our guests were standing in the isle handing out tickets and information when our good driver, Bill, had to slam on the brakes to prevent an accident. Larry lunged forward; I followed him, grabbing him so he wouldn't hit the aisle floor and get hurt. Then the bus lunged again, Larry came falling backward and stomped on my right foot (the same one in the ladder accident) and... broke one of my toes. So that sent my convention experience off to a "hurting stop". I told Larry, "I'm through trying to save you from getting hurt; I'm getting banged up in the process. You're on your own (chuckle)!" Our friend, Sharon Sundvall, also got hurt a bit. We definitely got a little bruised up, but went on with the rest of the tour pretty well.

Then, we were on to 3 ½ days of exhilarating Gospel music: quartets, trios, choirs, Instrumentals, Contemporary, Southern Gospel, Bluegrass, Worship, and the Gaither Vocal Band with Michael English. What a joy it was to sit with 16 - 18,000 others just taking it all in. What a treat. I was really ready for that.

At the Convention, they also featured several speakers, workshops, showcases, etc. We were honored to see Dr. David Jeremiah, Dr. Charles Stanley, and the special guest one afternoon was Sarah Palin (photo by www.paulwharton.com). So as you can see...it was truly an unforgettable experience that was full of excitement.

Now we are back home and preparing for our next 10 week tour that will take us all the way out to Florida to return to SD the end of November, beginning of December.

As I'm writing this I can see out the window that the leaves are changing quickly and alerting us of the change of seasons - ready or not!

You and I both feel and have seen the change of seasons also in our country, politics, etc. We as Christians need to pray harder than ever for our country and leaders. No matter how tough it gets...we still have access to the throne. As Sarah Palin said, "When all the attacks come - don't retreat - reload!" She added, "We need to get back to God's principles of freedom - our God given rights are worth fighting for." That says a lot right there.

Let's keep the faith- and the fight. Blessings on you!

CHUCKLE/REFLECTION

A Special Autumn Leaf

Several years ago, in early October, my 10-year-old daughter and I walked around our neighborhood, admiring the vibrant autumn leaves. It was a precious chance to spend some time together sharing quiet conversation and the beauties of nature - moments snatched from hectic daily life.

Overhead, trees flaunted their brilliant foliage: flaming orange, glowing russet, elegant maroon, sunny yellow. Beneath our feet, spent brown leaves crackled and swished.

As we walked. . .

. . . we talked. Lazy, quiet conversation about friends and school, about recent events; about the delicate leaves we gathered so carefully. We strolled on, scuffling our feet in the dry leaves -- enjoying the swishing sound they made -- all the while looking for special specimens.

Ahead, I spied an especially gorgeous specimen. Long and narrow, it shaded from green to yellow to red and seemed to embody everything good and precious in this season of change.

Excitedly. . .

. . .I pointed it out to my daughter. She looked at it for a long moment, then spoke. "Mom," she said patiently, "It's a gummy worm. You need your glasses checked."

A week ago, we were thrilled to be with all of our family, even if it was only for a few hours. We hadn't all been together for over a year. LaShawn, her husband Liam, and our son Donovan came from Nashville, and LaDawn came with our grandchildren, Dante and Myanna, and met Larry and I for a few hours of fun at the Minnesota State fair in St. Paul, Minnesota.

September 8, 2010

Greetings from South Dakota! How nice to have been home this past week. When we drove up the driveway, our tall grassy lawn screamed, "Mow me!" We walked in the house and the floors screamed, "Vacuum me!" The furniture screamed, "Dust me!" and the fridge hollered, "Fill me!" ....and Larry pleaded, "Feed me".  So much for the thought of switching to a quiet, restful pace. Oh well, thank God that I have a home, lawn, furniture, fridge and a hungry husband.

All together!

We have a tradition; we park the car, enter the gate and walk straight to the cheese curd stand, saunter over to the Pronto Pup and Brat stand, then criss-cross over to the Roasted Corn-on -the-Cob stand. By this time, we're ready for some walking so we can regain some energy and wear off some of the calories we just packed on - so it's on to see some of the exhibits. Then it's the "pork chop on a stick" and Ms. Field's fresh, hot chocolate chip cookies. Lastly, we groan...and walk... and wish we hadn't eaten so much. But, it's state fair time! It's the tradition. This year, Donovan and LaShawn got us tickets to a couple of grandstand concerts, and that was very special. Of course, then the kids wanted to go on a few rides. Not me! All in all, it was a great time and I savored every moment.

We are both back home now, buried in booking, office pile up and preparing for our annual Fun and Fellowship tour. This year we'll be heading to the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, KY. Oh yes, and this weekend, we are having a service in our home church. We are praying for many visitors to come so we can see a great harvest of souls.

We have been blessed to have been raised in a church that emphasizes evangelism. Through the years dozens have gone into pastoral ministry and have become missionaries and evangelists. We have a lot of saints who prayed and interceded relentlessly and helped set the destiny for all of our lives. We have been blessed.

The other day we had a window repairman come to measure and replace two windows, which have been broken by someone polishing their skills with a pellet gun. Amidst his measuring, the man looked over, saw a spider web and exclaimed (with a bit of concern), "What is that spider; I've never seen one like that in this part of the country." I replied, "I don't know, but its' relatives were here last year and weaved a web in that same place by the door." Everytime I've tried to take the web down and get rid of the spider he gets away... and evidently survives."

When we got home a few days ago, to my surprise, here it was again. Big and black with bright buttercup yellow markings on its body. I took a stick, pulled the massive web down and was beating the spider (and was sure this time I had it). To my surprise, the next morning after a wind and rain storm I walked outside and, believe or not, there was a full web again (I guess it likes working the night-shift). It proudly nested in its web as if to say, "You can't get rid of me."

I pondered that scenario a bit and it made me think of a parallel between that spider and satan. Satan is forever trying to discourage us by weaving a web of deception, lies, tactics and schemes to snatch up our children, grandchildren or us. I don't know about you but sometimes I get really weary of tearing down the strongholds that satan puts on marriages, finances, health and family. But... now the good news. God is still on the throne, He cares about us and He hears us when we cry out. I was reading this morning in Psalm chapter 6 and it was timely and touching. David wrote, "I am weary with my sighing every night, I make my bed swim (tears), I dissolve my couch with tears." Then David says in verse 8, "The Lord has heard my supplication, the Lord receives my prayer." Thank God for those words which bring hope.

Isn't that wonderful? Read that again, "He receives my prayer." He will receive your prayers. We cannot doubt or let Satan discourage us. The following is one of my favorite quotes and I have it written down in my bible. I don't know where I got it but it's true and powerful - here it is - lock it in your heart:

"I can do more than pray...but can do no more until I pray."

Friend, He's still on the throne, God still answers prayer...I'm waiting for answers and expecting them. Are you?

Gloria

PS.  Grandparent's Day is this weekend!

My mom has 70 plus children, grand children and great grand children, and she has such a unique way of making each one feel so special and loved. I am a bit jealous as we only have two grandchildren, but we love them to pieces and I'm so thankful that God sent them to our family. Dante is starting his senior year in high school and Myanna is in the 7th grade....wow, where's the time go? As we celebrate Grandparent's Day on September 12th, take the time to re-evaluate your role as a grandparent and see that we are doing all we can to bring another aspect of God's love, compassion and forgiveness into the life of each grandchild. We are blessed!

What a warm welcome we received. As we sang and ministered, we were cheered on by smiles and tapping of toes and clapping.

Greetings from the cornladen state of Iowa!

The weather is hot and humid the corn is tall and I'm sweatin'! But…this weather is what pushes much of the idle corn to tower at 10-12 feet and is truly a gift from God. Iowa has been plagued with heavy rains and flooding. Not only Iowa, as you can tell by the news..but literally all over the world. Truly the end time events are evident all around us. The good news is…Jesus is alive and well…He was, He is, and HE will remain faithful to those who love Him and know Him as their savior and friend.

We had two wonderful services here in Iowa. The first one was at the Joyce Lutheran Brethren church near Lake Mills, Iowa. It's a beautiful country church nestled and surrounded by corn and bean fields.

What a warm welcome we received. As we sang and ministered, we were cheered on by smiles and tapping of toes and clapping. Larry encouraged and challenged the crowd to be sure they knew that they had a personal relationship with Christ…not religion. There was a wonderful response.

Gloria with some of Cindy Hana's familyThere was a family, of about 8 or 10 that was sitting in one long pew. Cindy Hana, part of the family, wept as she shared with me after the service, "We lost our dear mother one year ago today, unexpectedly, having been diagnosed with lung cancer for only two weeks. It was such a shock to all of us…we miss her deeply. The immediate family decided to get together on this day, one year remembrance of her death, and wanted to do something as a family in her memory. One of the families suggested that we attend your service…I'm so glad we did. I'm sure you saw us women all weeping tears…we were so ministered unto, comforted and encouraged by your music and ministry. We definitely felt God's love. Thank you."

Rev. Kevin Olson

That was so touching! We also enjoyed our time with Pastor Kevin Olson. We had never met him before…but after a few minutes, felt we had known him a lifetime.

Oh…by the way, how did we end up in this country church you may ask? It was Arlene Enderlin, our sweet ministry partner, 84 years of age who called us months ago, "We want you to come to our church in Joyce, IA…when can you come?" Not just one phone call…but several. Arlene was persistent - for weeks. Larry and I looked at our schedule and finally found a place where it would fit in Gloria & Arleneand told her we may be able to come on a Friday night. "Good…that'll work. We'll plan on it", she chirped. From that moment she talked to pastor, made phone calls and pushed to get the advertising out. Her persistence won - it was a wonderful service. When I shared with her two daughters about her mom's persistence they smiled and said, "That's our mom…persistent!" We need more "Arlene's" out there with a passion and push to win the Lost. And of course, as they do in rural America churches, they had a delicious lunch with all kinds of goodies afterwards. Larry was all in favor of that!

Last week we were in Conrad, IA at the invitation of Pastor Steve of the Alice Church of God.  The rally was held at the High School theatre; and even though it was a small crowd, it was a wonderful evening of ministry.  When the invitation was given, fourteen precious souls responded.

Don & Mary Rolstad were also at the rally in Conrad.  They gave their hearts to Christ in 1977 at a Lundstrom rally and continue to be strong and active in their church and in outreach.

Rev. Steve Harvey

Pastor Steve is another outgoing, passion-driven pastor. His energy for Christ and the Lost seeps through his very being.

"I just wanted to thank you one more time for your faithfulness and your willingness to press forward and touch lives for Jesus. Your graciousness and humility is an example to all of us who are striving in the fields working to further the kingdom of God."

Myanna & Lois - New Sharon, IA

We've been so privileged to have had our granddaughter Myanna, 12 years old this year, with us for the past 4 weeks. She adds such fun and sparkle to our everyday lives on the road.

She's made lots of new friends and has been able to meet a lot of our partners who have been very dear to us.

Gloria, Myanna & Wanda Larson- Kiron, IA

Roger and Bev Sorenson were so kind to let us stay in their home for 4 days while on the road. We left our motorhome in Sisseton to save on some of the fuel expense.

Roger & Bev Sorenson

It was a special treat to meet with Don Thompson, who was the producer of all the Lundstrom television specials, such as Thief in the Night and all these TV specials have been put on DVD's and after all these years are still reaching lives. Thanks Don!

We pray that you'll have a wonderful week, stay cool and comforted knowing that God loves you and you are special to us!

A Psalm of Summer

Now it came to pass that Spring turned to Summer again. God's people raised their voices and said: "Recreation is my shepherd, I shall not stay home; he maketh me to lie down in a sleeping bag ; he leadeth me down the interstate each weekend. He restoreth my suntan; he leadeth me to state parks for comfort's sake. Even though I stray on the Lord's Day, I will fear no reprimand, for thou art with me; my rod and reel they comfort me. I anointest my skin with oil, my gas tank runneth dry; surely my trailer shall follow me all the weekends of this summer, and I shall return to the House of the Lord this fall! But then it is hunting season and that's another Psalm.

At this stage of life I miss all those wonderful moments we had as a family; taking short vacations here and there. I recall one time we camped out in the Woodlands State Park in Colorado. Tents, the camping stove, towering pines and the aroma that would put you at ease, the blazing fire, roasted marshmallows, hotdogs…yes, right now I'd love to go back. In fact, at this point, I'd be willing to go anywhere just to get away and get a little rest.
As I was writing this, I thought about an article that I wrote years back and would like to share with you.

August 11, 2010

It's definitely the dog days of summer. I'd forgotten how hot August could really be. The thought crosses my mind, "If I could just get out and sit by a lake and feel the cool breezes and look at God's nature…but then again, it'd be too hot to even be outside!

Reminiscing the other day, I told Larry, "How on earth did we ever survive traveling in old buses back in the 60s and 70s without any air conditioning or fans?" But then again, we didn't know any better, we just sweat it out. Now that I think about it, maybe that's why I was about 30 pounds lighter - ha!

As I was writing this, I thought about an article that I wrote years back and would like to share with you:

"Everyone loves vacations. Even if you don't leave home, just the thought of not being committed to jobs or responsibilities or time schedules is an oasis of rest in the mind.

One night after our family was talking about what we wanted to do for our one-week vacation, I went to bed still thinking about it. Gradually I drifted off, half asleep, when the thought came to me, What if God took a vacation? What if we couldn't feel His love filling our hearts? We would have to face trials and frustrations alone. If the news media predicted world-wide economic collapse, we couldn't rest assured that He was taking care of us. When we needed His comfort, He wouldn't be around to help us.

Then I thought about the importance of having the Holy Spirit in my life. He's the one who shows me the difference between right and wrong when I have questions about what to do. I really depend upon the Holy Spirit for answers, "O Lord," I prayed, "please don't shut off the blessings that you supply every day - food, clothes, shelter and financial miracles when our family pocketbook is empty." What would we do if the Great Physician took a vacation from healing His children of the sicknesses and plagues Satan uses in his attempts to destroy our bodies?

I shivered when I thought about the vacations people take from God. What if God instructed His angels, "You don't have to protect My children for the next two weeks because they want to be left alone. They're on vacation." If we really thought He would do that, we would be scared to travel on the highways. We couldn't enjoy boat rides or go swimming if we knew that God's protection was gone.

Even now I can feel the warmth and love of the Holy Spirit filling my soul. I can almost hear Him say, "Gloria, I love you. You're my child. I want to be the Lord of your life. I want to comfort you and be your friend. I want to carry your burdens and take away your hurts. Gloria, I love you so much! You can be sure I'll never take a vacation."

What a comfort it is to know God never takes a vacation from us. Let's promise ourselves never to take a vacation from Him.

Up a Paddle Story

There was one person that loved canoeing but every time he bent over to pick up his paddle, he'd get an awful crick in his back. It hurt something fierce so he went to see the doctor.
The doctor checked his back and could find nothing wrong, but he gave him some advice. He said that if it happens again, instead of just picking up the paddle he should grab it with both hands, stick the end of it in the ground, and slowly pull himself up hand over hand to the top of the paddle.

Well, on the next canoe trip, the person reached for his paddle and Wham! that crick in his back started hurting again. Following the doctor's advice he stuck the paddle in the ground and, hand over hand, worked his way up the paddle.

When he was finally standing up his back didn't hurt and he was very pleased to find himself Up a Paddle without a Crick.

Tips for Camping

  • Keep your camping-only items in easy-to-load crates. You'll be halfway packed for a spur-of-the-moment trip.
  • Pack clothing in trash bags. The bags keep clothes dry in wet or humid weather and can double as laundry bags.
  • Bring menu-specific measured items to save time and space. For example, measure all of the dry ingredients for pancakes and pack them in a covered container. Just add the wet ingredients when you're ready to cook. (Don't forget to label the items.)
  • Bring lids for pots and cookware. They allow food to cook faster and keep foods warm while you prepare other items
  • Throw a tarp over your cooking area before you go to bed. This will protect your gear from heavy dew or rain.

Larry and I just came back from a momentous Brook's family reunion in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Again, we left for home with memories that will last forever. I mentioned momentous…as my mother will be turning 95 years old in November so we combined her birthday celebration with the reunion. I'm sure you'd agree that when you're 95 …you don't have a great number of sunsets left to enjoy. Of course - none of us know how many sunsets we have either - life is uncertain…but God is faithful.

This year Larry and I hosted the reunion. In preparation, I was at a party store looking for goodies. I was searching aisle after aisle for "95th Birthday" decorations. The clerk saw me searching and asked, "Can I help you find something?" "Yes", I piped up since I was in a bit of a time crunch, "Yes, I'm looking for 95th birthday decorations." Her eyes got big as she responded, "No no, not many people live that long!" I grinned and said, "Well, my mother is alive and well. She had 12 children and now with their mates, their children and grandchildren there's about 108 in the family. And…she is still alive, has her sanity and sense of humor." She laughed, "She has more than I have in my forties!"

There's nothing like family! I found there are some similar facts about every family:

Number 1: Families like to have fun and enjoy the good times.

Number 2: Families fail…we all do.

Number 3: Families fight…or disagree…over silly things. And you know that's true.

Number 4: Families forgive - the key to keeping families intact and close. Number 5: Families should and need to have their faith in God to sustain them and make it through the tough times.

Number 6: Families forge ahead with God no matter what happens, knowing that with God's help and a relationship with Him, families will last forever.

At the reunion on Saturday, it was such a personal joy to watch our family reconnect through visiting, swimming, volleyball, basketball, ping-pong, games of all sorts and a pizza feast. May I add it was all indoors and in air conditioning -Praise the Lord!

Celebrating Mom's 95th birthday early

Sunday morning we met in a conference room at the Holiday Inn that was all decorated for Mom's birthday. We had a four hour, action-packed program filled with sibling's stories, music, skits, a dad look-alike contest, hula hoop contest, photo presentation and a time to honor Mom through sharing memories and stories. We also had a family devotional time by my nephew Jon. We laughed, we cried, we hugged and embraced each other and gave every honor we could to Mom as family is forever.

Just before we dismissed we formed a circle around the room, joining our hands and connecting with Mom's and shared a special moment. She has been our anchor through her love and support and prayers…the hub to keep this family together. Her faith in God, prayer life, zest for living, gentle spirit, sense of humor, and her unconditional love for each one of us has truly been a reflection of God's love.

Mom with 9 sons, 1 daughter and their mates

There were close to 70 in attendance!

I guess by now…you get it that I believe in getting the flowers and compliments while they are living, while she can smell them, while she can hear our voices and enjoy the reflections of her life. Since I was a little girl, Mom's favorite verse that was imprinted in our hearts and minds stays with me. "As for me and my house we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15)

Yes, with God's help and us keeping our hearts warm and in connection with God…we all will serve the Lord. Have a great week!

White Hair

One day, a little girl is sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly notices that her mother has several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head.

She looks at her mother and inquisitively asks, "Why are some of your hairs white, mom?"

Her mother replied, "Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white."

The little girl thought about this revelation for a while, and then said, "Momma, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?"

We were greeted so graciously by Pastor Randy and Debbie Mantik. As we were loading in I was visiting with Debbie. She had a somewhat distant look on her face…like a look of disconnect…then she piped up and smiled, "I can't believe you are really here. I've known you since I was a little girl. Greetings from Sisseton! Whew…talk about hot weather, it's been 96 degrees and humid, but again it's a typical South Dakota prairie-land summer day.

Rev. Randy & Deb Mantik

On July 11th we were at Wisconsin for a Sunday a.m. and p.m. service at Crosspoint Assembly of God in Portage, WI. It's a beautiful small community, just a few miles out of the resort area of the Wisconsin Dells.

My family used to go to all the Lundstrom concerts and rallies and watch you on television. In fact, you and your sister-in-law, Connie Lundstrom, were my sister, Becky Smith, and my idols. We wanted to sing and travel just like you…I'm kind of in awe that you are really here at our church." IDeb Mantik & Gloria chuckled and responded, "Maybe you're shocked that we are still alive and going!" We had a good laugh. I can't tell you the brain-squeeze that we experience when so many adults tell us, "I remember you when I was just a child" (may I add it happens more than you can imagine!). Pastor Randy and his wife, Debbie, traveled with Steve and Becky Smith as part of Heartsong for several years and had a wonderful ministry of music and preaching.

"What a blessing and privilege it was to have Larry and Gloria with us in our Sunday morning and evening services! They ministered with anointing and effectiveness, using a wonderful blend of music, humor, down-to-earth personal testimony, and Scripture. A number of people made fresh commitments to Christ and in general the Body was encouraged. Our people loved having Larry and Gloria here and we look forward to when they can return! We recommend their ministry without reservation and hold them in high regard. Larry and Gloria are warm, delightful, and charming people and we think they're wonderful--in spite of Larry's corny jokes!"

It was a joy to be with them for two services. Sunday morning we encouraged couples and families that are struggling and going through rough times. When the invitation was given, several couples, families and teens stepped forward to recommit their lives to Christ and to commit with God's help to work at their marriages and relationships. It was precious. With half of the marriages ending in divorce, we really need to encourage them hat God can change the circumstances and rebuild their marriages.

After our 10 hour drive to Sisseton on the following Monday we spent the next 4 days working in our home office. There's always more to get done than gets finished- ha! But…we love ministry and we love our ministry partners and friends.

Rev. Cliff & Mary Sheldon

Last Sunday, we were back in Watertown, SD at Christian Life Assembly. We've been coming to this church about every two years for the past 28 years. We've made many friends through the years. Pastor Cliff and Mary Sheldon have pastored there for the past 11 plus years and they too are a genuinely sweet couple that love the Lord and people. They are also blessed to have their daughter, Mandy, and son-in-law, Jeremy, on staff with them. Those two are truly a cut-above young couple in ministry.

Mandi, Jeremy & family

"As always, the specific annointing of the Holy Spirit on Larry and Gloria's ministry that draws people to Christ was evident.  There is no discrimination of age.  No matter the age of an individual, 7 years old to 77 years old, he/she will be affected by the ministry that flows through the Lundstroms.  We saw eight young people respond to the drawing of the Holy Spirit.  Some for the first time.  Some for rededication.  And one out of her desire to stand publically and boldly for Christ."

~ Amanda (Mandy) & Jeremy Harris

Sunday morning was like an old fashioned homecoming! The ad in the newspaper and our newsletter brought our friends from the Minneapolis area, IA, OR, and NV who happened to be vacationing inTodd & Bret the area. We were able to catch up with our friend and ministry partner, Todd Leininger and his son Bret, who pastored in Wisconsin and is now living in Watertown.  We have ministered with him several times and it was a joy to see them again.  It was also great to see people in the local church that Larry and I have known since we were in our late teens and used to attend youth events at that church. Wow…now I'm making myself feel really older than I am…or maybe not!

After Larry preached and gave the invitation; he challenged those that didn't have the assurance that they would spend eternity in Heaven and he invited them to pray a simple prayer and invite Jesus in to their hearts. It was so precious to see several teens and 3 young children step forward with tears coming down their cheeks as they prayed.

Altar call in Watertown, SD

With all the temptations that the youth are faced with today, we really need to be there for them. I encourage you to set an appointment with God as these young people come to mind, in your family or church, to pray for them. If we as parents and grandparents, or church members won't pray for them - who will and how many will? That's a convicting question. I like Psalm 55:17, "Evening and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud; and He shall hear my prayer." I love the part, "and He shall hear…". That means if we pray, He will hear and answer…that's a great deal!

This weekend Larry and I will be hosting a Brook's family reunion and my mother, Julie Brook's 95th birthday party. She turns 95 in November, but with the Midwest weather that is uncertain at that time of year, we're celebrating it in July. We'll share a bit of that on our next On the Road update. Have a great week!

GloriaMyanna & Gloria

PS.  Next week our Granddaughter, Myanna, will be celebrating her 12th birthday!  Happy Birthday Myanna!  We love you and are so proud of you and the heart that you have for God and the compassion you have for others.

A daddy was listening to his child say his prayer "Dear Harold". At this, dad interrupted and said, "Wait a minute, "How come you called God, "Harold"? The little boy looked up and said, "That's what they call Him in church. You know the prayer we say, "Our Father, who art in Heaven, Harold be Thy name."

Johnny had been misbehaving and was sent to his room. After a while he emerged and informed his mother that he had thought it over and then said a prayer. "Fine," said the pleased mother. "If you ask God to help you not misbehave, He will help you." "Oh, I didn't ask Him to help me not misbehave," said Johnny. "I asked Him to help you put up with me."

In the 40th chapter of Exodus verse 34 it talks about the "tent" being a "meeting place" with God. Well-Regent had a tent that became that "meeting place" for those looking and longing for God. It was such a sweet service.

It was also thrilling in the past two weeks to meet numbers of friends who have come to Christ under our ministry in the past several years. That truly is an energy transfusion to Larry and I that gives us strength and joy to keep pushing on.

June 30, 2010

We've just returned from a 10 day tour of North Dakota that brought us to Regent, North Dakota. We were invited to be the spiritual emphasis in their city's Centennial celebration. Russ and Sharon Schaur and Ron Schaur invited us to sing and minister Friday evening in the Regent School, as well as a community service on Sunday morning under the big red and white tent. Beings it was a centennial celebration there were people from coast to coast that came to participate, and many of them joined us on Sunday morning.

The night before the tent was used for a dance band, so we had an early Sunday morning clean-up of the aftermath of party goers. Larry and I set up our sound system and Ron, Russ and friends set up chairs and benches and may I add, the chairs were padded..how about that!

How thrilling it was to change the wooden dance floor into a sanctuary and altar. The morning gave us perfect summer weather with plenty of sunshine and a light breeze. When Larry gave the invitation young couples, families, and seniors walked up to the front and made decisions for Christ.

Speaking of "pushing on" Larry turned 67 on Monday, the 28th. His vision and heartbeat for the lost is greater than ever. He lives, breathes and talks evangelism. He began his 50th year in ministry last May 15th and plans to go a lot longer. (But I hope we will slow down a bit). I'm trying to keep up with him...but trying to keep up with the ministry pace is like trying to chase a "rabbit on the run"!

On our way to Regent, North Dakota which is tucked away in the hills of the North Dakota prairies, we had a special treat. We were mesmerized and intrigued as we traveled the enchanted highway where you travel 32 miles and view 7 of the world's largest metal sculptures created by Gary Greff. Of course North Dakota and South Dakota are known as the pheasant hunting capital so Larry had to stop and take a picture of these metal pheasants. Wow! You can't bag this pheasant, but you can admire it as it took 3 years to complete. The rooster stands 40 feet high and 70 feet long! The hen is 35 feet tall and 60 feet long. The chicks are 15 feet tall and 20 feet long. Our motorhome definitely looked tiny beside these pheasants! If you happen to be traveling through the midwest or the prairie lands, keep them in mind. I'm sure you would enjoy seeing that. Enjoy your 4th of July weekends and remember what a gift Freedom is - both for our country and for our spiritual lives!

Soon judgment will descend, the day of mercy passed;

Our only hope is God - on Him we must rely;

America to your knees! He will hear our cry.

America to your knees! Your forefathers of old, loved God

And served Him faithfully - for righteousness were bold;

They read and lived God's Word, honored the Sabbath day;

America to your knees! Confess your sins and pray.

America to your knees! Now is no time for pride;

In humble pleading call on God that He be on our side.

We've sinned and disobeyed, we've wandered far astray;

America to your knees! Return to Christ today.

PIC OF THE WEEK

This photo reminded me of what a farmer once told me-

All my tractors are John Deere except for my wife-she's a real Case!

RECIPE

Homemade Ice Cream in a Bag

1 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 cup milk or half & half
1/4 tsp. vanilla
6 Tbsp. rock salt
1 pint size plastic food storage bag
1 gallon size plastic food storage bag
Ice cubes

Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the bag. Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it. Place the small bag inside the large one, and seal it again carefully. Shake until the mixture is ice cream, which takes about 5 minutes. Wipe off the top of the small bag, then open carefully and enjoy!

* A ½ cup of milk will make about 1 scoop of ice cream, so double the recipe if you want more.

HOUSEHOLD HINT

To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

We just completed an exhilarating DADFEST weekend that was hosted by Minot First Assembly of God in Minot, ND with Pastor John and Naomi Brady. This entire event was a gift to the city. You name it, they did it. It almost looked like a county fair had come to town.

There were
 kites like this everywhere!

Thanks for letting Larry use
your bike!

Last Saturday morning started out with classic cars that cruised around Minot, followed by 26 motorcycles taking a 2 hour bike ride, which Larry was thrilled to be a part of. A man named John Nolden borrowed Larry a motorcycle and helmet and soon the whole group was on their way. I decided to stay back and pray for all of them. With all the energy that was about to hit the road, I felt that they may need a few extra angels looking over them - HA!

The blessing over the
motorcycle ride.

yum!

Among the many attractions offered there were inflatables for children, booths selling kites, a blacksmith shop, a quilt tent and in another area they had farm equipment lined up, another area had fire trucks, a bomb squad, the National Guard, and a free car wash. To top it off they had a tent that served hamburgers, steak kabobs, homemade fries, hot dogs, soft drinks, coffee and shaved ice. Needless to say…Larry made sure he found each of them and tasted it all to make sure it was good…you know him! Everything was free to the community and hundreds flowed in and out of the tents and all over the grounds. At 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Larry spoke a short teaser sermon that ministered to Dads and families about relationships. All of this was held under their brand new, large blue and white tent.

free car wash!

At 6:30 Sunday morning, action began again. Hundreds of chairs were set up in the tent and at 9 a.m. Larry and I set up our sound system for the morning service. They held a "Liquid sunshine hour" where they served free juice, coffee and rolls to whomever wanted it. While all of this was going on, the church set up their worship band, etc. At 10 a.m., the big blue and white tent came alive with the worship group and special highlights about honoring fathers. By this time the tent was full as friends and family from around the area and the Assembly of God congregation came with expectations of what was going to happen under the tent.

Father's Day Service in
Minot, ND

Larry and I were invited as special guests for Father's Day. What a great morning as we ministered and
the climax of the morning was a dedication of the new tent. Larry was asked to dedicate it as this tent is to be used for evangelism of all avenues. Pastor Brady, his wife Naomi and his entire staff are passion driven and compassion filled to reach the lost and hurting. Wow - seeing the tent dedicated for souls brought tears to all of our eyes.

Altar call in Minot, ND

Through all of the DADFEST events over the weekend, hundreds in the community saw a church live out the statement, "Do all…to reach some." And…they did it!

Rev. John & Naomi Brady

"On behalf of our First Assembly of God church family I want to thank you for our ministry to us here in Minot. What a special honor it was to have you as part of our DADFEST outreach. Please know that you are loved. Thank you for your faithfulness to the ministry and your love to the church."

Rev. John & Naomi Brady

Thank you, Pastor John and Naomi, for the privilege of taking part in the DADFEST and the dedication of the tent. Again, we appreciate your passion for souls and your exceptional staff - what a testimony of what God can do when we all pull together!

CHUCKLE/REFLECTION

The church choir was putting on a car wash to raise money for their annual tour.  They made a large sign which read, "Car Wash for Choir Trip."

On the given Saturday, business was terrific, but by two o'clock the skies clouded and the rain poured, and there were hardly any customers.

Finally one of the girl washers had an idea.  She printed a large cardboard poster which read, "We Wash and God Rinses."  Business Boomed!
